USFSOFFICIAL
would you recommend upgrading from the closed radiator system (with the external radiator reservoir [No Radiator Cap]) to the newer system?
jdog
depends, how is your system now? if its working then leave it a closed system. is the radiator bad or getting replaced and you want to then you can. there are manufacturers out there still running closed systems. if you just want to switch to have it "easier" there are ways to do it without a radiator replacement. NKCrider
Literally just swapped mine to open this past weekend. Super easy, the new Spectra radiators have a bung for the fan temp sensor on them. Also deleted the heater control valve.

I did the swap on mine over 10 years ago, best upgrade I ever did, several computers later I have since lost the parts list and it's time to replace the hoses. Thanks Just did this last week in my 1988 Eliminator. Used an Oz cooling all aluminum 3 core radiator and 3 electric fans (Amazon $220). I had to notch the top support for the filler neck and reuse the isolation pads, but I was pretty easy. Also took the opportunity to swap in a Flowkooler water pump and convert heater to '97+ style. You'll need upper and lower radiator hoses for your year, heater in/out hoses for '97+ Cherokee and the water pump return coolant tube for a '96+ Cherokee. The tranny cooler tubes and aux a/c fan sensor fit and didn't require replacement. Whole project is pretty straight forward, other than the fan wiring diagram. Throw that crap in the garbage and fine a good diagram on line. Took a two days at a very leasurly pace. Much better now.
Comanche SS
All, please do yourself a favor during the open cooling swap and get a coolant reservoir from a 87-90 4cyl.Fits in factory position and is ready for open cooling setup.Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
