knever3
I have a built stroker and have the full bracket brown dog motor mounts with the rubber inserts. I followed the directions and left the motor mount bolts a little loose and used nyloc nuts so they won't come loose. The problem is when it idles EVERYTHING rattles, dash, mirrors yeah that. I am almost tempted to go back to the stock ones, but I already threw out the stock frame brackets. Do I have any other options? I enjoy driving it, but the whole truck shakes and buzzes so it is very fatiguing. Ideas?
MiNi Beast
can you swap out the bushing ?
knever3
It is a simple two piece bushing, one on each side. I think the problem is that they don't have enough rubber to insulate the engine NVH no matter what you do. I don't know if stock motor mounts would fit in place of the brown dog ones to try, but maybe I will buy a set to see.
MiNi Beast
i was reading about different types of rubber and poly mounts as i am in need of solid mounts with yet another failed factory motor mount. will you post a ref pic by chance? 75sv1
M.O.R.E. , Ironman 4X4 and possibly Stinky Fab have Clevite Rubber bushings mounts. They might replace the top bracket/bushing assembly. I hear they do transmit a bit of vibrations, but not as much as the Brown Dogs.
ghetdjc320
Yeah I ran those on my YJ and they definitely transmit way to many vibes. Just ordered a set of new Mopar oem ones to replace my aftermarket ones (not brown dog on my mj though).
AZJeff
I had Brown Dogs in my last XJ, and I can say this: at the time I installed them, Brown Dog offered both rubber and polyurethane bushings for the mounts. DO NOT used the poly ones unless you like not being able to see anything clearly through your rear-view mirrors. Even the rubber bushing versions transmit some vibration. Owing to this, when I put new mounts in my MJ, I went with OEM type.
MiNi Beast
so what are you doing to aide in the un wanted movement of the stock mounts?
75sv1
My Brown Dogs are the rubber version. I did have issues with the clutch fan contacting my 3-row radiator. I was warned about this with aftermarket clutch fans. I use a MOPAR. I installed the Brown Dogs after that, too.

It’s a trade off I suppose. If you need the mounts to be stiffer I’ve had good success filling in the voids of an oem mount with 3m window weld. Andy in Pa
I run the Brown Dog polys with bracket kit on my 96 XJ trail Jeep and was concerned about the vibes. I was pleasantly surprised that it was no problem. Take a close look and make sure the metal portion of the mount is not touching (or close to) the engine bracket on the drivers side. Its quite tight there, and also on the passengers side by the alternator. I remember having to notch the metal on the MORE motor mounts on my 88 Cherokee (many years ago) to make them work and not have vibes. I can also see a case where the bolts on the mounts, if left too loose, could possibly make light contact on the metal collar inside the bushings, which could cause vibes too. I tightened my Brown Dogs like the directions said too though, and have no issues.
