MiNi Beast Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 can you still run and drive without the factory cluster installed? 92 4.0 h.o. aw4/231. so if i wanted to install my own gages vs factory tech. so i want to know if unplugg idiot lights and gages would that interfere with computer at all?
Dzimm Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I don't think it would be an issue. I'm pretty sure there are separate sensors for the computer and the gauges. No reason for the gauge cluster to send any signals to the computer. My 98 XJ gauge cluster would sometimes jostle loose or somehow lose connection and the gauges would completely quit working while driving. Didn't seem to affect anything.
Minuit Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 No reason it would cause any problems, but what improvements are you hoping to get versus the factory cluster?
MiNi Beast Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 honestly just want more cubby holes for things that matter. like in dash cb mounting, standalone gps unit, just want to take out what i can and make my own. figure gps can handle mph and can get a volt meter with dual battery setup, so maybe install rpm tech but do i need to- i know the sound per rpm range.

Yup. Used to have pictures of me doing around New Orleans.....dunno where they went.
