Someone to do the 97+ upgrade

Just spitballing at the moment, but I would like to do a 97+ (Ideally 99+) swap on my '92 longbed. Issue is, I don't have time for it and most of my tools, my shop, my lift, air compressor, etc etc is in Georgia in storage while the MJ and I are in Louisiana. I figured with winter coming up, I'd throw this out there to someone who's done it before:

Would you do the swap for someone else and what would you charge?

I'm looking for the dash, seats, motor, keep the original doors (probably swap the windows but keep the shells), and front clip then paint. Shoot me a PM, there's been a few swapped MJs up for sale recently and although I'd like them, I am partial to mine. Shoot me a PM and let me know if you're interested.

I'd be willing to do a 97+ swap again but being multiple states North of you doesn't make it all that feasible.  I also don't have the time for such a project this winter but do have some questions for you to think about during your search.

Are you providing the parts or would the person doing the swap need to find/purchase the donor XJ?  What setup do you want to run for a fuel tank/sending unit?  Are you looking to retain the current trans/transfer case?  For paint are you expecting the person doing the work to paint it or having an actual paint shop do it?  Is there additional things you want done while it's apart such as sound deadening or fresh paint in the engine bay?  Any rust repair involved?

You are going to easily double or triple your cost for this project if you pay someone else to do it, just be prepared for that.

Oh yeah, it's always cheaper to do it yourself but time is my biggest constraint right now. I can source a decent '99-'01 XJ for about $3500-4000 locally, if that can be beat then we'll talk.  Planning on keeping the current trans/xfer case....as far as painting I'd prefer it to be painted while it's apart but if they've done an MJ swap before and have a shop they previously used with good results I'm open to that.  As far as I know, there's nothing more than light surface rust on the Jeep, however I would go over it prior to handing it over and repair/record anything I come across. It's been a while since I pulled my carpet up and checked my floorboards.

I don't mind the drive...I can pack my motorcycle and ride it back :D

I'll insert the obligatory "noooooooooo!!!!!  not to a 92!"

but jokes aside, what precisely is the gain you're hoping for by swapping 20 year old parts onto a 30 year old Jeep?  :dunno:

Cup Holders... Duh...

97+ swaps aren't what I would want on my truck but I do think they are kind of cool. If I was keeping the 89 I would consider a full 97+ swap.

Updated interior with digital gauges, a working tripmeter since apparently the HO tripmeters can't be repaired, working A/C, updated looks, power windows and locks, bigger windows.....I can go on :D

Oh, and I just think the facelift looks better overall too.

I can send ya a replacement speedometer.  :L:

You know, I would take that. I'm not quite ready to do the upgrade and if I pull my dash for my AC I'd love to get a working tripmeter. Then I can see if I can repair mine.

I've also got some electrical gremlins behind the dash, intermittent wipers that work intermittently (loose connection somewhere, I've swapped the module with 2 others from the JY and same results), AC control lights don't light up, flickering dash lights behind my speedo (but not the tach, yet another loose connection). Oh and my blower door/blend door seems to be jammed, I always have air coming thru the defrost vents no matter where I set it and it's weak coming from the floor and upper vents.

I’m pretty partial to my original interior also on my 91. The squared off panel lines really match the truck but I also wanted increased functionality. I’ve been contemplating the autometer invision dash. It is almost a perfect fit and wouldn’t require too much modding to get to look perfect. That and my double din head unit with backup cam is a nice little setup.

The last one is almost certainly a vacuum leak.

If it is it's the vacuum, harness behind the dash. I've replaced all the vac lines under the hood, including the one that feeds under the dash (that was a serious PITA for sure).

In that case going to 97+ is even better because those vents are electrically operated I believe, no vacuum solenoids.

it still seems like you need someone to spend a couple quality days with your baby and fix up the nagging issues. :D

Time,  time,  time.... that's why I am asking if anyone is interested who's done it before.
