Brake lights stuck on

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I just had my IAC valve replaced and just noticed my brake lights are stuck lit up (as if actively braking) when my headlights are engaged. The brake lights work normal when engaged when headlights are off. Does anyone know why this might be? I plan to call the shop to let them know, but I’m curious if it’s a coincidence and I need to order a part. Thanks in advance!!

Sounds like running lights. Have you recently replaced the bulbs? If so I would check the orientation, they are pretty easy to put in the wrong way so the brighter filament comes on with the running lights and the dimmer ones blink or come on with the brakes.

If you recently replaced the bulbs, did you put the correct ones in? Should be double contact bulbs (two contacts on the bottom of the bulb). Sounds like you have single contact bulbs installed in those sockets....

Replacing the IAC would not affect the brake lights.

The OP reports that the brake lights work correctly when the headlights are off, but the brake lights are on when the headlights are on. That suggests to me that the taillight ground is bad, and the parking lights/taillights (which come on with the headlights) are seeking a ground through the brake lights.

Check the ground for the taillights.

THIS is most like the issue.   Eagle speaks from experience, I am certain.
