Drahcir495 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 There are a few Grand Cherokee's at the pick-n-pull with the V8s in them. I have gotten mixed reports on if I can use, or need both parts (drag & tie bar)? What will I need to grab to be able to swap it over to my MJ. Just the drag link & tie rod, or stabilizer too? I will be replacing all the rod ends with new ones, so why not have the beefier set-up. Thanks, Rich
offroader461 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 all u need is the ZJ tie rod....you can use the XJ/MJ draglink (same as ZJ) and your stabilizer...unless it needs replacing
HOrnbrod Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 The V8 ZJ sway bars are also interchangible too, and are usually considerably thicker, and grab the end links and bar bushings/retainers too.
Drahcir495 Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 thank you both. . . now which one is the tie rod  ? Is it the one attached to the drop pitman arm?
Eagle Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 No, the drag link runs from the pitman arm to the right side knuckle. The tie rod runs from the right side of the drag link to the left side knuckle.
Rob S Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I run the full ZJ steering set up on my TJ, will do the same to my MJ. If you plan on lifting it, grab the pitman arm too, its a one inch drop from the XJ/MJ/TJ.
jtdesigns Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 Too bad this site doesn't offer a rep button because thats a great picture you posted.
XJ Maki Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 90 and earlier draglink has smaller diameter threads on the tre than 91+ (ZJ's are ofcourse all 91+ anyways) you definitely want the bigger tre's I had a ZJ tierod and it appeared stout but bent silly with a mild hit. A friend told me to remember back to elementary school science class and that a solid rod doesn't have as much tensile strength (I'm sure somebody will correct me on that term) as a hollow rod....basically a 1.5" .250 DOM (your standard HD aftermarket tie-rod) is much stronger than the solid ZJ one, which is considerably stronger than the stock XJ one.
