With 4.10 gears, what is the optimum tire size? 4.0L with AW4 Is 33" too much?

i'm running 31s with a 4.0/manual and I absolutely love it.

i run 4.10s with the 4.0/aw4 and it is perfect. i still get 20mpg and the powerband is spot on. you could probably do 4.56s.

With an auto trans, 4.10s and 332 or 33s should be fine. I assume you already have the 4.10 gears?

I just installed 4.10's today. Running 32's with the Renix 4.0, auto. It didn't like overdrive before & now it rolls along nicely. Won't win a drag race but it's liveable.

I really wanted 4.56's, but I scored a free R&P from a friend's YJ that got 4.88's. Gotta love freebie's.

I consider the optimum combinations to be 4.10 gears for 31" tires, 4.56 for 32" tires, and 4.88 gears for 33" tires.

Keep in mind that 31" tires with 3.73 gears is exactly the same final drive ratio as stock tires and stock 3.54 gearing. 4.10s with 33s is probably going to effectively be about the same as a stock setup.In other words, livable but hardly optimum.

 

Just checked my charts. In overdrive with the 4.10s you'll be turning 1965 engine RPM at 60 MPH. With stock 225/75R15 tires and an auto, 60 MPH is 1938 RPM. You'll be okay on the road, but you won't have a great crawl ratio without more gear.

i run 33's with 4:10's with ax15. i have good punch in all the gears. in 5th i think i would like a touch more overdrive, but still thinking about it.

hmm around here ive seen all sorts of mud trucks with 35's crawl rocks and shoot mud sky high with highway gears 4.10s arent needed for 31's but they do make things easier. remember that an engine can run past 3000
