How many models were made?  In what order was base model to top model?  And which  model is the hardest to find?

The hardest model to find would be (most likely) an 86 XLS, it was a one year only trim. I think it was the top model for 86, then went X, then went base.

Another rare one would be the Comanche Chief or 88 Olympic edition. The registry would be a great place to find this information.

I will try to get scans of the parts manuals that decipher the VIN and see if we can get them somewhere everyone can access them.

Model designations changed depending on the year.

The MJ factory service manual I have is for 1986. Trim package is the 8th character in the VIN.
