Ωhm
Leaving in the morning (Sat) from MI to Myrtle Beach SC for a veterans convention. I think Dorian missed or just missed. Any updates would be helpful? Also is I72, I73 & I74 mostly all the same interstate highway? Tough time reading SC roadmap.
Ωhm
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the DoubleTree Hotel and a couple of things. 1 – They have lost power, but were told to expect it to be back on by noon today 2 – Since they have no power, the phones do not work. When power is restored, they will be back on 3 – There is debris on the parking lot and property, but that is being cleared right now. 4 – They are de-sandbagging now 5 – They have to go room by room and take the beds off the risers they had put them on so that in case of water in the rooms, it would not damage them. They also change all the linens in every room and that process started at 9am this morning. 6 – The meeting rooms served as a storage space for all their equipment they had to place inside, so they are in the process of emptying them out and will be completed this weekend at the latest So……bottom line is, we are GOOD TO GO. Those who are arriving tomorrow morning may have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to be placed in their rooms, it depends if they have competed the room to room cleanup and after inspection of those rooms. I have told them to have 2 bartenders at noon and plenty of Miller Lite. They asked me to apologize to those who were coming in early for this “hiccup” and look forward to seeing all of us next week Appreciate your patience and again, I will keep everyone up to date if there are any updates or if anything changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. On behalf of the 100th Promenade Nationale Corporation

I'm looking for 174 but now I see I-74. Having been through those areas............ Don't know from where you are coming out of MI but- 75 south to Knoxville, 40 east to Asheville, 26 south to Lexington SC, 20 to Florence, 501 to Myrtle Beach. Most direct no BS way to go..........now if you want the scenic long way around........that's up to you.
Ωhm
Google Maps kick us off I-75 at Findlay or Dayton OH to head South-East. Knoxville KY, as suggested, might be the way to go.

Jeep Driver
You'll have a lot of displaced people in the center of the Carolinas, some people may have nowhere to go. Traffic......gas may be an issue....etc....... I'd stay to the west, partly why I mentioned that direction, then go across to MB.
Ωhm
Dorian put the hurt on a lot of good people down there. Your route makes sense.

Manche757
I live in Virginia Beach, VA, right on the ocean for those that do not know. 100 driving miles from the outer banks of North Carolina known as the OBX. Dorian was not as bad here but gust of 80mph and driven rains brought us power outages, flooding and trees down. Businesses, schools, airports and court systems all closed. Normal workdays were spent at home not knowing how bad the hurricane would be. Many events were postponed. I assume you checked to make sure that your event has not been rescheduled. I can not speak for Charleston in particular but when city water supplies are possibly contaminated, boiling water or bottled water is recomended. Hepatitis A comes from a fecal/oral route. Yep, eating do do at your favorite restaurant in the form of fresh vegatables. But there are many other bacteria, viruses and chemical pollutants also. Use bottled water. Ωhm
Noticed lots of utility vehicle convoys heading north or west. In VA now (I-77 & US58) for the night. JD, got out voted on which route to take. Majority said follow the vehicles on-board computer. So far, so good. Beautiful part of the country. As Jeep Driver suggested, you may be confusing I-74 with 174 ("Eye 74" v. One Seventy Four") Ahhh ... Looking at Google Maps, I see that I-74 runs westerly from I-95. East of I-95, it's not Interstate 74, it's U.S. Route 74, which is not an Interstate highway and which can have traffic lights and stop signs. 72 appears to be a South Caroline state road. Jeep Driver
Central NC and SC are bland, flat, a bore. If he's taking state highways......town to town to town, lots of stop and go. East coast is a nice drive....OBX, Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel..........car ferry to Ocrakoce......etc..........all very nice, just not nice right now. No truer words have ever been spoken, about the boredom of SC. The roadways themselves are nice, but holy crap is there nothing to see. It's like driving into eastern OH from PA. Flat, straight, and nothing. I actually fell asleep driving on the OH turnpike for almost 2 minutes once. Woke up, and I was still driving straight down my lane @ 65-70 mph. Scary, but true story. Lol.
