CPH-0628
Well my 14 year old son has always had a fascination with the comanche and has always said he wanted one someday. Well for his 14th birthday we kinda surprised him with a 1990 comanche project for his first vehicle. Will be a decent project for me and him to build up. When we first got it it came as a rolling project with no drivetrain and a bed and cab full of parts. It was originally a 2wd 4cyl 5 speed that already had a 4.5" lift in front and spring over in rear. We eventually found a 2000 Cherokee and decided to pick it up and do a complete swap into the comanche. We first completely stripped the jeep down to just the frame and got it power washed and the rear frame rails wire wheeled and coated with bedliner. Next up will be getting the completely rusted out floors rebuilt and the rockers repaired. Gonna be a somewhat slow start build but it should be like a new truck when we are done with it. 89 MJ
You are awesome parents. I too got my MJ when I was 14, I’m 15 now, I had to use my own money to buy and build mine and I don’t regret it. I hope your son loves his too!
Pete M
my first car was a hand-me-down Aerostar. (hey at least it was a stickshift. ) not long after though I saved up and bought my first MJ. still have it, 20 years later. Your son is already ahead of the curve! CPH-0628
Well finally started working on this project last night. It's gonna be quite a bit of work to get the floors. Unfortunately I did find one small spot on the frame that's rusted thru. What's everyone's thoughts on cutting out the bad spot, welding in a patch, then putting frame stiffeners over it all? Other than this one spot the frame is solid front to back. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Airborne Janitor
Hard to say how bad the rust is. Looks like you got quite a bit to punch through there. I would keep hacking away at it until you find some solid steel that you can actually weld to, then make the call. Patch panel and stiffener sounds like a good idea, or welding in some thicker angle iron.
CPH-0628
Is there anything on this old gas tank I should keep for selling off? The tank is rusting out and has a couple pin holes in it so it's getting scraped. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

CPH-0628
Well with everything that's gone on this year we haven't really had much time to get any work done on the comanche. Also moved up in position at work so bigger work load and then we sold our house and bought a new one so most free time has been spent on home renovations the wife wants. Anyways, here lately I have gotten out to the garage and made a little head way with this project. Still need to finish up the floors but have also started stripping down the xj we are using for parts. Got motor, trans, and t case pulled out today. Now to figure out what's going on with number 6 cylinder. Had a crushed spark plug in it. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
