Tach doesn't do anything, gas gauge pegs out, temperature gauge says it is at running temperature when it starts. pretty sure it is a ground wire chewed in two, any ideas?

I was hoping you would say something easier to find. You are probably right. so far the only chewed wires were by the airbox, feeding the fuel pump resistor.

No luck, ran the ground out to the engine compartment. No change. this thing is frustrating. I can't see all the gauges going bad at the same time. it has to be something they all have in common.

Ground to the cluster is attached to the dash frame just above the hood release handle.

Clean that ground.......improve that ground and every other ground on your truck.

Do you have tilt wheel? if so is it loose? just curious.

voltage and oil pressure also.

Then as said, clean the ground up first and/or do Cruiser's improvement.

You may also want to pull the cluster and check the plug, circuit board, etc, as I've seen them get quite corroded or gross.  The whole cluster comes apart fairly easily.  Make sure the plug is seated correctly when it goes back together.

I have this one and my CJ7 apart at the same time, so I am not able to give full attention to the Comanche.

CJ is getting a Dana 300 (had a Quadratrack) so I get back to you after trying what is suggested.

If you have the cluster out of the vehicle, you can run test leads from the sensors directly to the posts on the various gauges to test them. There are contacts in the one of the diagnostic port blocks for the tachometer. All the other gauges, I believe, have the same ohm range -- 0 to 88 ohms,  -- so you could use a test lead setup from either the temp sender or the oil pressure sender to check them all. (Except volts -- but that's easy to test with a direct connection to the battery.)

Hate to say it but did you check the fuse in the panel?

No response yet.

Actually, the entire panel does not look good.

At the very leas you are going to have to get a test light and start tracking down circuits.

I agree -- that doesn't look very good.

More important, the fuse panel is two parts. One part is on the engine side of the firewall, the part in your photo is the other side. To really investigate the condition, you need to remove the screw that holds the two halves together, separate them, and inspect those contacts.

Okay, I ran a jumper from the fusebox to the hot wire on the dash. It worked. I checked the fuse, it was good, that was in the evening. I went out today in the daylight, and the connector behind the fuse, the metal part was gone, it had copper color on one side, plastic on the other. I have jumpered around it. Will fix it right when I have more time to fool with it.
