Pete M
it's a 2wd/4.0/auto/4dr with rotted floors, melted #2 piston and smashed in passenger side doors from the accident. I've already grabbed the obvious stuff for my empty MJ (front clip, wire harness, head with intake/exhaust manifolds, dash, hvac, brake booster, door guts/glass, front seats, belts). the steering column is still in place just in case I need it for this Jeep's final maneuvers but I'm taking it eventually. I just get this nagging feeling that I'm missing... something. maybe that feeling is there because I'm leaving behind some things that I'd normally snatch (if it wasn't in my grandma's driveway) like the gas tank and 8.25 axle, or the rear hatch because it's huge and I have no use for it. should I be focusing on the fuel pump wire harness? the plan is an MJ swap for all this. JEEP_cannible
I would probably leave the back hatch, but the 8.25,and the tank, skid plate, wire harness that would all come home with me,You never know what you may need down the road.To bad I don't live closer Pete.If that trans is any good I could use it,and the CPU,and shipping would give the wife a heart attack for sure.I thought last week was going to put her over the top.I took out the back glass in my 97 Grand Cherokee.Try'n to help a friend out tow chain snapped, and took out the glass in the back hatch. Pete M
the only problem with the rear axle is that the Jeep needs to be a roller in order to be able to get dragged away.

Put it on trailer then remove the axle and take jeep to scrap?
Pete M
If all goes well (and I can get my hands on a title this week) it'll be leaving on a tow truck. If all goes to pot, it'll be dragged away on a uhaul dolly to my cousin's place while he waits for the title. I did give a quick thought to upgrading the axle of my half-a-Jeep , but don't have a welder up here.
JEEP_cannible
I got you Pete.Because even the front axle is worth c$sh in AZ or NV,CA desert racers love the 2wd fronts.Honestly if you didn't have to have a roller I wouldn't leave much behind. With out a trailer or a way to get it off your up a creek.Nice thing is I have an acre, and a 1/2 I can store things untill I can get what I want off of them. JEEP_cannible
I'm lucky here we don't have to have a title to salvage cars here. They just do a quick check to see if it's stolen, and there on there way to the salvage yard. The only problem is the nearest one to get Jeep parts is 2 hours away in KS.There pretty picked over by the time I need parts. So I try to salvage anything I can,and buy anything as cheap as I can for parts.I'm looking into a J10 truck right now,and hoping I can haul it off for free.Getting a hold of the guy is being a pain in my a$$ though. Pete M
yeah, Michigan is a real stickler for titles.
JEEP_cannible
Yeah If you are any were around Detroit I can see why.Its the same in CA if you don't have one they make you pay for a salvage title, and all the stuff that goes with it.Hunting people down, regestered letters the hole deal if you don't have a title. There's a few ways around it out there if you know the right places to take them, and what you have to do to get them sold as scrap steel.I used to cut up VW's into tiny little pieces, and then fold those up even smaller. It was a lot of work, but worth the cash I saved, and the time I saved not chasing after people for the titles.
Pete M
I literally threw away a rusty bronco body/frame once. one chunk at a time. that was back before scrap had any decent value and I kinda wanted to keep the title (for reasons that now escape me). MeanLemons
Pull both axles. Tow truck can winch it up the flat bed easily. May just scratch the driveway though.

Pete M
and it'd be 10 times worse if I hurt her lawn! now, if I haul it to my cousin's place for temp storage while the title thing is sorted out, then we'll see about saving the axles. I'd still prefer having it magically go poof from the drive. I'm leaving on sunday at it has to be gone from it's current home by then.

dasbulliwagen
Get a few of those 4 wheel dollys from harbor freight and set it on them after you pull the axle, that way it can be pulled onto a flatbed without scratching the driveway.

Pete M
well, it looks like we've formulated a plan. going to just rent a dolly and haul it to my cousin's place for him to slice and dice at his leisure. this gets it out of the driveway right now and has the side benefit of the axles and trans can then be set aside for resale later on and the body can get hauled in for scrap. The hood will be removed as soon as I get another set of hands here and the hatch will stay on for the drive but he will set it aside for me later. oh, and the steering will remain so he can maneuver it in the yard but will definitely be saved.
