Project Golden Oldie

Recommended Posts

So last year I purchased another Comanche I had seen around my area. The owner was an elderly gentleman who bought it off the line in 1987 and garage kept it it's entire life. It came with a huge pile of receipts from EVERY repair it ever had. Otherwise, all the original manuals were with it, too. It is all original. So my goal for this one isn't as extreme as Frankenstein. This will be a relatively light build of taking care of the simple fixes it needs to bring it back to show quality. The only mods I will make are probably the radio, bedliner, and some slightly larger tires(with the possibility of a small lift to accommodate). The truck itself is a 2 wheel drive auto inline 6. It's gold inside and out, thus the name.

It's in such good condition that I don't want to do heavy mods to it, and besides, I already have my beast in Frankenstein.

Bonus of Frankenstein in the background before most of its work.

And also, this truck was entered into a Jeep contest and won!(In the XJ category, since they didn't have an MJ one) Here's some pics of that

Can’t see the pics, on an iPhone, mine is gold too with the camel interior.

Sounds like a great find. Ya please don’t chop it up. Leaving it stock is a good idea for resale in some cases. Chop it up and the value goes down.

Super nice find!!!!  Love those one owner, super well maintained trucks!  It's fun to have more than one..... I had hoped to have my off roader, my raceTruck, and my Dually.  Didn't find enough time for them, and brought other vehicles home so I had to narrow down to the off roader.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Did a little work to both of them today. For G.O., there used to be a bed cap on it that wasn't properly sealed up on the edges, so some fairly aggressive rust formed around the bolt holes(since they didn't use clamps but rather drilled through the bed rails). I sanded them up to clean metal and did a light couple of coats of heavy duty rust preventative paint. It doesn't look perfect or anything, but that's a mute point, since it's getting bedlined next year. I also to the time to replace my dry rotted window sweeps with some nice new units from Advanced. The unfortunate thing was that whoever shipped them to advanced bent the box literally in half so they were a little misformed. I really didn't want to go back out so I tried them anyways. They still seal fine, but they are warped somewhat.

Nice truck! What's the mileage look like?

The mileage is at 115k, so not terrible.

Awesome find, looks like you can have your cake and eat it too with the two mj's!

Yeah, I was really happy to get this one in addition, but there was a long period where I thought I was going to have to scrap Frankenstein due to rust issues.

Out with the old

And in with the new. They need some time to break in on it.

And some dabs of paint to keep the metal clean in the meantime.

What I meant by bent. You can see the other one still in the package at a 90 degree angle there.
