I have been creeping on the forums at work for about a year. I have owned two xjs in the past and have fell in love with Mjs! I live in eastern ohio and have had a hard time finding one for sale. I finally found one about an hour away, and I'm extatic! I want to just say I want it without seeing it, but I need to make a smart decision. I also apparently am not as computer savy as I thought because I don't know how to post pictures...

The ad reads as flollows:

New gas tank

brake booster

master cylinder

calipers

wheel cylinders 50 % brake lines

rancho shocks

cone intake filter

performance spark plugs

stereo

windshield

rear window

ladder rack and more

1988. He said there was part of the frame he had to reweld a piece on due to rust, but the rest was surface rust.

170000 miles 5 speed

He said reverse recently stopped working

2 inch lift

inline 6

rwd

swb

He is asking 2500.

Honeslty looks a little rough from the couple pictures. the pictures he used had the window broken in back so I asked if there were updates since it said new window, and he will be sending pictures tmro. (maybe I can figure out how to post them. Would you think this is a good deal? I am convinced I want an MJ as my DD for the rest of forever but I want to be smart. The frame worries me and I would like some input.

Thank you!

EDITED I found an MJ for sale even closer! I agree that the salty winters wreak havoc. New MJ is as follows:

1988 Pioneer

"BARN FIND" last inspected may 2013. 84k miles. Truck was rust proofed so no rust anywhere. Very small amount of surface rust behind wheel wells on bed.

Manual

And I believe 2wd ( can't quite see from pictures but I believe)

swb

I know I would like a swb and a manual. I ideally would want a 4wd, but the 2wd doesn't bother me for now. From the pictures, the paint is peeling, faded but all that would change eventually.

He would like 3k for it. I would like to pay a little less obviously-but how about this one? I appreciate all the feedback for this first time Comanche owner!

(also can you only post pictures in a link? I can't do that while on my work computer)

Run away, and don't look back. Without seeing any pics, from the description I can pretty much guarantee it's a basketcase. 2500 will easily get you a truck that still has a frame left if you keep looking (and he is bull$#!&ting you when he says the rest of the frame is surface rust, I guarantee it. These trucks don't just rust in one place. If the frame is going, everything else probably has cancer too, whether or not you can see it yet.). My advice is to expand your search and either be willing to travel or have the truck shipped.

I'm from eastern Ohio as well , where do you live?

I've had many Mjs that have lived their life in Ohios rust area , sounds like it's not worth the $2500 to me . The frame is going to continue to go in other areas and you'll be polishing a turd , I learned my lesson after 5 rusted out trucks , I currently have 2 rust free Mjs and one somewhat clean one I use as a truck . The last truck I purchased from Colorado through a member on here was $900 plus shipping but needed some work , it will last me a long time once completed .

Well maybe I just needed some talking down. I'm from Martins ferry by wheeling wv. I've looked at the forums for Mjs. I think I will keep looking. If he sends pics I'll try to post anyway, but I think I'm gonna pass

as the others have said, down south or out west will give you a truck that isn't falling apart.  buy it, build it, and then never ever let it touch salt.

our trucks tend to rot from the inside-out so by the time you see a problem with the rockers or frame or bedsides, it's waaaaaaay worse than it looks. :(

I just had my second child so I am being forced financially to sell the truck in order to buy an extended cab pickup. I have a 91 comanche I am going to build once I get my finances back in order. If you PM me your email I will have my wife take some more pictures for you tomorrow.
