6 Quarts of AMC-JEEP Quadra-Trac

Saw this over at the county hazardous drop area.  They have a free shelf of useable chemicals and liquids.  If somebody is interested I can pick these up and hold them.  I’m not sure how good the lubricant is but maybe a collector/conversation piece?  The date code is 1974.

I'm not sure what this stuff is, ATF or gear lube?  It seems really thin when you shake the bottle...

It's a special fluid for the Quadra-Trac system, not an exact copy of anything used commonly anymore. If I were to guess it's probably a thin oil with friction modifiers like in limited slip diff lube if my understanding of how Quadra-Trac works is correct.

I have a CJ7 with Quadra-Trac and I'm changing the oil for the transfer case this week, ordered the oil from 4wd.com. Since I work at an oil analysis laboratory i decided to run some tests of it to check the formulation, viscosity, etc. to see if there's a similar oil out there (we have a large database).

This is just in case anyone is interested:

Quadra-Trac OIL:

Viscosity (cSt - centistokes):

• 100C: 12.58

Lub Density: 0.88

There are a few oils that are almost identical in specs, the ones I found were:

• Shell Rimula 15W30 (multigrade)
• Pennzoil Long Life HD 15W40 (multigrade)
• Shell Rimula X-30
• Shell Rimula X-40

In the FSM there is instructions on how to make it from straight 30W and limited slip additive, they were aware that even at that time that the oil would be hard to source.  That is the common method of dealing with it now.  I'm not sure if it is recommended to try the 'identical' spec oils that are listed in the post Hornbrod quoted.

 

I haven't changed the oil on mine and haven't decided what I'm going to do about the truck as a whole anyways.  The whole truck is pretty terrible and has been abused by hillbillys for quite some time.

Good job. I think that same juice works in the full-time NP249 transfer case in the ZJ Grand Cherokee.

I picked up those 6 quarts and have them packed and ready for shipment.  They are factory sealed, cleaned up and look brand new.  If somebody wants to pay the shipping I will drop them off at the Post Office.  The package is 13.4 lbs shipping from 80514.  I have a photo but photo bucket is not working tonight.  Send me a PM if interested.
