I posted this in the comanger thread, but figured I'd start this since it is not your everyday knowledge

The Dually - didn't some one have one on e-bay last year??? Was out in CA.

Clamed it was a factory dually

Yea, this step side looked really good, and the owner told me how easy it fit on the uni-frame.

of 9 or 10 factory dually's, that is the only one to survive in the continental us. the other is in hawaii, and is run with a flatbed. they had dana 44's from factory, with an adapter/spacer kit to allow for dually's and a spacer system on the front. upgraded braking system (rotors etc.) to account for more hauling, and rumour has it the springs were heavier duty than the 1 tons.

this one's a full resto and conversion to a HO from a 1991 cherokee.

I don't have the links anymore...new computer since then, these pics were on my external.

in my research, I found that they were a base model comanche that was taken from the factory and offered as a dually by some company...so it was similar to the factory lowrider (the one with the body kit) in that aspect.

the brake rotors are larger, and the dually's are mounted via a spacer kit. same for the front.

then the fenders for the rear are simply bolted on, and other than that they're the same as a normal one.

From what I have gathered info wise... Like was all ready posted a dealer somewhere had an idea to make a dually MJ, and contracted with another company to make it happen... kinda like the Southern Comfort trucks you see riding around from time to time

I 2X this

We had this discussion a year ago, when that same truck was posted on e-bay, the guy selling it about 2 months after he bought it on e-bay.

I'm not saying your wrong jeepco, But I don't think a dually ever came out of the factory, and the part manual I have don't show anything about the wheel adaptor, or fender, or nothing.

We had a Ford dealer around here, well still around, and 12-15 years ago, he was selling brand new 6 door pick-up trucks, yea, double crew cabs, and he order them and they were built by Century. They also made alot of custom vans, and this was just a "after market" type truck.

The wheel adapters for Budd rims, you could buy thru JC Whitney years ago (Yea, I'm showing my age ;) )

That's like the step side that I posted, if I were to do one, and use a MJ tail gate, and post it on e-bay as a one of a kind, only one built in 1993 and had a starting bid of $15K, after 4-5 re-listings, I would find a sucker.....a....er....buyer for it :D

We all around here know better, but the "car collectors" on e-bay don't know, and would even jump on it to $50K.

Hey, I got to go, I got a new project cooking.......be right back.

Wildman...note that I didn't say factory in a factory sense. they were dually's before they were available for public, not some homebrew kit.

I also did say that they were "sub-contracted" of sorts.

I'm going to call a technical foul on that. When talking about motor vehicles, there is only one "sense" for the term "factory." It means produced by the original manufacturer in their own facilities. It also generally means on the regular assembly line, and any "factory" vehicle that was built as a one-off styling prototype should be identified as a styling prototype.

These concept vehicles that Jeep has had made up from time to time by REV or whatever that company is called were styling prototypes and the company even sells some of them on a limited basis, but they would never (properly) be termed "factory" vehicles.

i am gonna say factory or aftermarket whatever its a good looking mj, but i would never ever ever want to own one because those pretty rear flares would get ripped off too quick on a trail :D

Eagle - Thanks for clearing up the term "factory" vs. "prototype's"

Also, in that same picture you mentioned, I count a 5 leaf pack plus the helper, all that I've ever seen are 3 leaf pack w/helper on SWB and 4 leaf packs w/helper on LWB, both D35 and D44's. That's got to be one tough ride.

I also would say the brake lines do not have the original look to them, going over the axel

Jared makes a good point with the rear flares too, would be tough in a parking lot too :D

I would like to find a source for those rear fenders. There used to be an old Ford Ranger in the next town with fenders that looked suspiciously like those, but I never found it with a driver inside so I could ask where they came from.

JC Whitney used to carry them, (I think). The Whitney ones were a fiberglass skin that you attached over your factory fenders. They came alot larger than you needed, and you trimmed them to match your body curves. A friend and I 'dually-ed' his parents Toyota p/u to better carry their slide in camper. I wish I knew what camper that was, cause I have a feeling it would have fit perfectly in my MJ.
