Courtesy lights, ashtray light, headlight delay in Missouri

Here is a package deal.  Under dash courtesy lights, with the larger, correct, tested bulbs.  Headlight delay box.  Ashtray light with a tested bulb.

Package deal.  Courtesy lights work up to 1989.  If you have a 90+, I have those also.

Yes one of the courtesy lights pictured has some cuts in the insulation.  I think someone tapped into it for an alarm.  Also, the mounting screws are included for everything.  $35 shipped.

If you are looking for other items, I have a pretty good collection of knickknacks.  Jack handle bracket, mini consoles, emblems, battery trays/bolts, etc.

Any interesting badges?

1991 Jeep Comanche 2.5L 5 speed Red Short Bed

I've got some 4x4 badges and a small collection of Cherokee fender, hood, and rear emblems, 4.0 Litre High Output, etc.  I just recently sold my COMANCHE fender emblems.

Do you still have any of the courtesy lights for a 90. And what does the headlight delay do?

I do have some 90+ courtesy lights.  The headlight delay leaves your headlights on for 45 seconds if you shut down you ignition, and then turn off the lights.  If you turn your lights off first, they go off like normal.  All XJs and MJs are wired for the delay from the factory.

Really I did not know that. So mine is unmolested. So it should have the delay right? Is it plug and play and where is it located so I can check to see if I have one. But I'll take a pair of the lights for sure. And if I don't have the delay one of those, but I need to check.

The headlight delay module works like this (from the factory owner's manual):  "On the models with this feature, turn off the ignition switch, then the headlight switch. The Sentinel will keep the headlights on for about 45 seconds.  Turning off the headlights before turning off the ignition switch off deactivates the Sentinel.  The Sentinel Switch may be activated if the multi-function stalk (turn signal lever) is inadvertently pulled forward following engine shut-off.  The Sentinel will keep the headlights on for about 45 seconds."

The wiring plug is located behind the dash, to the driver side of the steering column.  It is attached to the metal behind the dash with a single screw. The factory mounting location generally requires removal of the lower dash valance.  It can also just be plugged in and zip tied up under the dash.

That part about the stalk I did not know. Maybe I should read the Owners Manual.

I added the delay module from a 93 parts XJ into my 88, the pigtail and all was already in place. Just had to add the module itself. I like the feature, although over the years I have seen several threads from new owners who were trying to "fix" the perceived headlight problem. Makes for a good chuckle when you finally realize just what it is they were thinking was the issue.

Back to topic - have you still got a set of courtesy lights to fit an 88? And will you ship them to Canada?

Thanks

Dave

This is what the headlight delay does.

FWIW, the relay costs about $65 new.....

I think I "borrowed" the picture of the delay box mounted behind the dash, although I don't remember where.  I see it on your site, so if it was from you, I hope you don't mind.

Yep.  After I read it, I had to go try it.  Couple tries, nothing.  Then I cycled the key on and off, then pulled the lever and it activated.  I'm pretty good with vehicle electrics, but I've not tried to wrap my head around this one.
