HOrnbrod
Get them in brass if possible so they don't rot out again. Usually when one goes the others follow. Should I get the later model plugs? They come in copper...but not sure if they are the correct size I'd use them if the size was right.
ComancheKid45
Glad you found the culprit! There is no coolant relevant to either of the manifolds. This is false for the 2.5 TBI power plant. Coolant does flow through the intake manifold by way of the upper heater hose. Granted the loose intake manifold bolt wouldn't cause a leak. Sorry, didn't read close enough and have next to zero 2.5 experience. Glad I learned something today. ;)
91Pioneer
You don't have to but it's a good idea to change all the freeze plugs if you are changing one due to a leak.
88whitemanche
So I bought both...dorman 555-014 steel and the 565-014 copper for the later model 2.5s.... Removing the old plugs were a bit challenging being my first time but popped them out and installed all 4 in about 10mins.... I decided to do the copper first and they fit perfect! Install pics... HOrnbrod
Looks good. Now would be a good time to do the plugs on the side of the block too.

Lol I said the same thing after I already reinstalled everything.... If they leak I'll redo them... But as a first time it wasn't too bad... benjy_26
To my knowledge, no. They should seal on their own.
HOrnbrod
I haven't done it often and it's been many years ago. I've never used any sealant on freeze plugs and they never leaked. But that doesn't mean it's right.........
Eagle
I have always used sealant on freeze plugs. Nothing high-tech -- good, old-fashioned Permatex Aviation-Grade Form-a-Gasket.

91Pioneer
You shouldn't need to use sealant. Make sure the hole is clean and tap it in. It shouldn't hurt anything to use a bit of sealant but it's more important to make sure the hole is clean so when you tap in the new plug it seals it. ParadiseMJ
Just go to a decent auto parts place like NAPA...Where they still use books to look stuff up and employees with greasy hands. If you have a radiator shop around, hit them up.
88whitemanche
Well finally got the exhaust bolt and installed...added antifreeze and ran it for about 20 mins and no leaks... And I don't have as to what had sounded an exhaust leak anymore
