Grand Cherokee hitch on my MJ

Recommended Posts

Cruiser,

I like what you did there!   Looks like you had to cut and splice the 2 WJ/ZJ hitches together.  I had toyed with picking up a Grand Cherokee hitch just for the square tubing and using Krustyballers hitch plates to bolt it on to the Comanche.

93 Grand cherokee aftermarket hitch.

The GC's rear bumper brackets supply 2 of the 3 nuts for a nut strip, with some cutting involved.

One of the 2 holes is off a bit so I had to drill a new hole on each side.

The GC's side brackets where they bolt up to the frame are the same as xJs if that helps.

I needed to extend each side as the MJ's frame rails are further apart. Used 2.5 heavy square tubing (2.5" ID) to sleeve it together.

...and $20 for powder coat.

That's a great deal! Around here they want $100 to coat one wheel, I need to find another place.

A good friend of mine has a body shop. So as long as its nothing intricate or difficult, he just charges me supply cost.

So you attached to the underside of the MJ frame rails rather than to the sides?

About how much did you have to stretch the hitch?
