Alright guys, I'm going from a 2WD Peugeot (internal slave) to a 4WD AX-15 (external slave) in my recently acquired '88 SporTruck.  I've disconnected the lines at the slave end and clamped the hose for the time being.  My question is, since I'm going to an external slave, can I just mate the hydraulic line from the Peugeot master to an AX slave?  The master cylinder looks to be fairly new (PO said it was, anyway).  Just trying to save money if I can because the whole hydraulic system, prefilled, is $100+ on RockAuto.  Just the slave is ~$35.

You'll need to make sure the internal bore of the master matches the internal bore of the slave.  If the master bore is bigger than the slave bore, you will blow out the slave.  The the master bore is smaller than the slave, you will not get enough movement to fully disengage the clutch.

You can purchase a pre-bled master/slave kit from Rockauto (or most auto parts stores).  Be sure to ask for the kit for a 93+ XJ.

Edit: Do not get the 98+ kits

Does the BA use the same clutch kit as an internal slave AX-15?  The internal and external slave AX-15s use the same Lucas master.  When Georgia was 2WD and had the internal slave AX-15 I lost the master and bought a new one.  When I converted her to external slave 4WD I used that master in conjunction with the slave and plastic hydraulic line that came out of the donor.  P/N matched and I have about 10K miles on the conversion.  The box showing the P/N is on my build thread if you need it.

Good to see you got your external slave AX-15
