PIKE Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Yes I did, with the help of the macs tank. Very easy to convert to an open system that way. Macs tank + 2.5 Overflow bottle = Open System
HOrnbrod Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Nice clean way to convert the system. Plus you can keep the original radiator.
cruiser54 Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 http://macsradiatorshop.com/surge-overflow-tanks.html Have/had one on my white MJ. Leaks at a seam. I may get it fixed but I'm preparing to convert all my Renix Jeeps to the filler in the upper hose.
ScottJeep Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Agree with Hornbrod...Pike that is one slick way to convert. Very neat. Hospital clean engine compartment there! Added to want/need to do list. cruiser.... send that thing back... they show a lifetime warranty.
HOrnbrod Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 cruiser.... send that thing back... they show a lifetime warranty. The junkyard don't have no stinking warranties. :rotfl2:
Jackrabbit41 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 As the title asks, I'm interested in the results and/or pitfalls. I am so done with plastic bottles!! The upper hose is 1.25" inner diameter except where it bells out to 1.5" at the thermostat housing, , so I can choose which filler I want to use. Clearance issues? Photos? I'm thinking a recovery bottle can go over where the crappy plastic bottle and it's mounting is now. __________________ Just get this: http://macsradiatorshop.com/surge-overflow-tanks/replacment-jeep-radiator-fill-tanks-366.html I fixed everything in my cooling system and it still overheated until I got one of those aluminum tanks.

I did that on one of my 3 Renix Jeeps. It frickin started leaking!! Same week that a plastic replacement on another one took a crap.
cruiser54 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Used 97 heater hoses. One thing though. The Renix Jeeps had a straight fitting coming up from the water pump and a curved heater hose there. HOs had a curved fitting from the water pump and a straight heater hose. Fortunately this 88 has a curved fitting on the water pump. Coolant recovery bottle is temporary. dboisen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Looks like a clean setup. Does the Moroso 63745 go from 1.25" to 1.25"? Also why the 97 hoses?

cruiser54 Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 Thanks! Any issues with hood clearance? The metal saddle that the filler is gonna fit in needs to be bent down a smidgeon.
dboisen Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Thanks! Any issues with hood clearance? The metal saddle that the filler is gonna fit in needs to be bent down a smidgeon. Parts just came in. What are you using for a recovery tank? The previous owner installed cruise control where I planned on putting mine.

dboisen Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 cruiser do you happen to have the part number? My aftermarket cruise control is almost directly underneath the renix bottle. Thanks.
cruiser54 Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 I'm sure I do on a receipt somewhere.
cruiser54 Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Found it online. 7304514 and I put it in the earlier post.
HOrnbrod Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Found it online. 7304514 and I put it in the earlier post. I thought you were done with plastic.
cruiser54 Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Found it online. 7304514 and I put it in the earlier post. I thought you were done with plastic. Plastic under pressure.........
HOrnbrod Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Plastic under pressure......... Isn't that another name for the Renix system?
cruiser54 Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 No. That would be high nickel blocks.
dboisen Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Haha thanks cruiser and hornbrod. Will also post pics when done.
dboisen Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Had to relocate my aftermarket cruise control. Also decided to keep the heater valve. (Not sure why) So I got one off a Dodge Caravan. Used a tank from a Cherokee and placed it where the old one was. Also went with the Moroso filler. Overall it worked out pretty well. Great solution to solve the renix "plastic under pressure" issue. And a good way to clean up your engine bay. Thanks cruiser for providing part numbers!
