Paul Bruchal
On my current MJ, it came with a lift already installed. It has 30.5" tires on it already, and I believe I could clear 31" with no rubbing. I have stock lower and upper CAs. How can I tell what size life is on it? Do I need a Adj. track bar? I have RC 1.5/2" shackles and I think 1 3/4" coil spacer I want to put on but IDK if I need to upgrade Track bar yet. And if I upgrade that, IDK if I should go with http://www.roughcountry.com/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=xj+track+bar. I eventually want to be like 4.5 total lifted. docivy
If you want to go 4.5 then an adjustable track bar is in your future regardless. So I would just go ahead and get one.
Eagle
If it still has the original flares, measure from the center of the wheel (the centerline of the axle) straight up to the bottom edge of the flare. Stock 4WD XJ or MJ should measure 17-1/2" in the front. If you don't have the original flares, let us know and I'll look up how to measure from underneath, between the axle and the frame. HOrnbrod
De nada. Most everything I think is important and/or comes up a lot I sticky it in the DIY forum. I'm lazy and don't like searching.
Paul Bruchal
I got 20 inches exact from center of front hub to bottom of stock flare. Also I got to meet Frankenstein? Eagle
I got 20 inches exact from center of front hub to bottom of stock flare. So ... 2-1/2" lift. 2" is what I consider the maximum lift for staying with the stock track bar. If you add 1-3/4" coil spacers, you'll be at 4-1/4". My '88 had a 4" lift when I bought it, and the axle was about 5/8" off-center. I installed an adjustable track bar to correct that.

Crash
For the money, especially if you are on a budget you cannot go wrong with the IRO TB/bracket.
JeepsOLot
I put an IRO adjustable TB on my wife's lifted WJ, I highly recommend them, and I will be getting one for the Eliminator soon. Jerry

Do you know what the stock rear height from fender to center wheel in inches??? I just installed 2" rear shackles and just curious where I'm at now in the rear. Use the method in Hornbrod's link: http://comancheclub.com/topic/11098-how-to-measure-ride-hight/?hl=height I think the hub-to-flare measurement or a stock MJ is around 20-1/2 to 21, but I've never verified that. Crash
On the note of measurements.. and not really wanting to get dirty and crawl under my MJ today. Can anyone confirm rear, hub to flare measurement for MJ. My MJ is 2WD, and the springs are maybe sagged some? But, from what I gather is that Metric ton springs net about 1.5-2" on a 2wd. Which leads me to believe that the 19.5 or whatever measurements are for 4WD vehicles. I understand that the longer shackles I install on my MJ yesterday will not give me the advertised height change due to the leaf design.

Crash
I asked, because that is not VERIFIED. Assumptions are the mother of all f-up's. I guess the world may never know, like Tootsie-pop's. Eagle
Can anyone confirm rear, hub to flare measurement for MJ. Confirmed: 1988 2.5L 2WD. All stock, 200,000+ miles on the clock. It's currently wearing an aluminum utility topper on the bed, and the bed has about 300 pounds of parts in it. Hub to flare: 20" right side, 19-1/2" left side. Call it 19-3/4 for a well-used 2WD, or round it to 20 then add a half inch for the weight of the topper and parts. 20-1/2. 4WD MJs ride 1" (nominally) higher than 2WD, so for a 4WD it looks like the stock measurement should be 21-1/2" (plus-or-minus 1/2").
