Comanche 87 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I have an '87 Comanche that I am replacing the doors and bumper. I have access to a 1995 Cherokee 4 door for parts which I have been told will fit from the doors all the way forward. (Thank you all who helped me with the mj door swap thread!) Could you tell me what tools and sizes I would need to pull the doors and bumper off? I don't have lots of tools and I have to drive a ways to get to donor truck so having the right tools on hand is vital
Minuit Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 For the bumper, you need a T50 Torx socket. The bumper is held on by speednuts that are very prone to breaking so be careful and bring penetrating oil. Not sure on the doors.
Akula69 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Door hinges are # 40 Torx screw. Be very careful that the bit is fully engaged so they do not strip out.
Minuit Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Also you may want to bring some extensions to get to the upper bolts for the bumper. They can be tricky sometimes.
ScottJeep Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Several pairs of different sized Vise Grips. You are gonna use/need them.
Comanche 87 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 OK I'll write this all down. Thanks for all the info.
Comanche 87 Posted July 25, 2015 Author Posted July 25, 2015 Will a 1994_ Cherokee 'sport' 4 door still Work with the universal frame of the '87 Comanche?
Minuit Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Yep. Any 96 or older 4 door door will fit without any changes. 97 and newer will with some modification.
Jackrabbit41 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Breaker bar for sure and a whole lot of PB blaster
Comanche 87 Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Found an 88 Comanche 2-door with roll up windows at local jy. The driver door is in good shape and has a complete undamaged door panel. That will fit a 87 right?
FrankTheDog Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Yes all comanche doors will work. You'll want to bring a 15 mm socket for the bumper brackets. There will be 3 bolts on each frame rail. It's easier to pull the bumper with the brackets still attached.
Gjeep Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 A 2-door xj door or door panel will not fit the MJ. An xj 4-door door/ panel will.
