docivy
Hey guys I've been researching because I want to rebuild/refresh the 2.8 in my recently acquired mj, I will be swapping a Weber 2 barrel with electric choke in due to the birds nest of broken/missing vacuum lines in it. That way it simplifies the vacuum system. The big question is....since the tbi version of this engine that's in the s10 has larger valves in the heads would it be worth it to swap a rebuilt pair into it while its apart? I'm going to the ARI stage 2 cam as well.
Jeep Driver
Why not just build a 3.4? No one here will recommend you do anything to the 2.8 other than scrap it.
Pete M
x2. the Jeep 2.8 blocks are not worth the money. get yourself a 3.4L engine and invest your money into something that will last. Chevy improved all sorts of internal components in the 3.1/3.4 variants. docivy
Honestly I figured that is what most would say. Regardless I have to do the carb soon. This thing is a vacuum line nightmare. Not a single piece of rubber hose is good.
cruiser54
Then do the carb and wait for another engine as suggested. Ever heard of the expression "polishing a turd?"
docivy
Yup, would the 2 barrel Weber be the best option for replacement? Previous owner pulled the smog pump and blocked allot of vacuum lines. It's so bad I'm hoping to remove all of them but the distributor advance and brake booster vacuuum lines. Is it possible to do?

86FUBAR
I swapped a set of "large valve heads" on my 2.8 a few years ago and didn't notice any real gains though it wasn't a DD anymore at that time and with all the other mods it was kinda hard to tell if there was any real gain . Now when I swaped to the 3.4 then it was a night and day difference !
Crash
The 3.4L is a plug n pray upgrade for the 2.8. It just makes sense. Proabably cheaper than a head swap on the 2.8L
