88Pghcomanche
Today I got a price for a full repaint. So that you guys might understand just how expensive things are in Norway, a full repaint costs $1265 - if I sand everything myself, AND buy the paint myself. Insane. Honestly, that price to paint is about right. In my area a mid-high grade quality full repaint with minimal body prep will cost you 4-5k. Concours quality paint job is 7-10k. Maaco quality job 300-700$. Black looks great on MJ. Check out knever3 thread for a great example: http://comancheclub.com/topic/43859-fun-with-the-camera/?do=findComment&comment=446027 I vote for VW R32 Deep Blue Pearl or Honda Desert Sage Green. Keep in mind his price quote was for him doing a majority of the prep work himself and buying materials. I just saw a hot rod at the local car show being displayed by a local shop that did the paint job on it. I inquired how much the paint job cost. $37,000 "retail" Yes, it was a 4 stage uber complicated metallic pearl etc etc yadda yadda. Then I got to thinking, I am looking at $800 in material costs to paint my project car, labor being done by myself and a buddy who is a painter, and I was complaining about how expensive my paint job would cost lol. Nobles41
Nice factory rollbar. Interesting-looking seat buckles, never seen that kind in a Comanche. It appears that your spare tire carrier is broken (the unraveled steel cable underneath the back end). Write-up somewhere on here to fix that though. Good looking truck. Roar Nesbo
Loads of stuff happening with new job(s) etc, so haven't had time to do anything really! But now I'm back to planning and parts searching... Think I found everything I need in my area or new online, but I'm looking for the ashtray cover in that red... Here's a pic
Automan2164
HOLY COW!!! I've never seen one of the factory "COMANCHE Four Wheeler of the Year" Decals!!! Super Jealous! Is there any way you could take some detailed pictures with a ruler for scale so we could reproduce yours? It may be the only in existence. I'm loving the truck. A '86 XLS 2.5L 4x4 with AMC 20 is one of my dream trucks. I have to ask too, what is going on with the seatbelt latches? They look, different. Nice truck! Rob
crs88
I had "alligator" seat belt latches like those in my old Saab. It may be a Scandinavian market requirement.
Automan2164
I get it now. It eliminates the latch and you just feed through the belt. One way of doing it. Must be stronger? Rob

That's how seatbelts on at least many American cars looked like around here in the 70-80s. Don't know why though lol

Automan2164
I didn't know it was rare at all, good thing you told me before I ripped it away xD Rare doesn't even begin to describe it. I've seen a TON of MJ's over the years. I have only seen reference of that decal in my old parts books. I have NEVER seen one, not even in a catalog. I always assumed it was more of a small badge than that fantastic display of "Four Wheeler of the Year, what 'cha gonna do 'bout it!?" I'd love some detailed pics and measurements. Roar Nesbo
Haven't been on here in a while. Bought a house and a lot of projects have been postponing my work on the truck. I've now dug it out from the snow, put rustcoating on the frame and reassembled it as well as changing the wheels. I do have one issue though: when changing the wheels I had to cut off a bolt (the part attached to the wheel hub, rear ps). I can't figure out which bolt I ha e to get to replace it, which needs to be done to get it road legal. Help would be appreciated!
Minuit
Was it one of the wheel studs? Do you have a pic?
Roar Nesbo
Its one of theese, don't know what to call it in english so found a random pic on google
HOrnbrod
That's a wheel stud. They press in/out of the axle flange. Or use a BFH (Big Flocking Hammer) and heat. For your MJ it's a 1/2-20 x 1.625 (or whatever size the other studs are). https://www.quadratec.com/categories/jeep_wheels/wheel_studs
Roar Nesbo
So a friend of mine who is a mechanic disassembled the wheels to get to the studs. In order to make it fit with my wheels, and get the right lug nuts (?) for it, It needs to be M12x1.2 with a knurl size of 15.8mm, or 0.618/0.622 in. I've searched the web for two hours now... Seems like the M12x1.5 studs stop at a knurl size of 14.3mm. Does any of you know of a magical catalouge I could look in to find the right size? HOrnbrod
Is your MJ a stock export model with the AMC-20 rear axle? And what wheels are you using? Jeep stock wheels or aftermarket? The AMC-20 wheel stud p/n is J3220275 which crosses to Dorman p/n 610-170.1. http://www.dormanproducts.com/itemdetail.aspx?ProductID=32669&SEName=610-1701

Roar Nesbo
Wheels fitted, everything looks good - time to get it to a shop so it can be declared road legal! A friend of mine found me a Cherokee in great body conditions. Some defects internally, but I don't need that. Question for you guys is: will lights, grills, front bumper, front fenders etc. fit my Comanche?

Question for you guys is: will lights, grills, front bumper, front fenders etc. fit my Comanche? The front bumper hood, and front fenders will fit, but for the grill and surrounding parts (turn signals, etc.) it depends on the donor XJ year. Anything below a 91 (90 and down) will fit your 86, but 91 and up are different, but can be made to fit.
