JeepsOLot Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I have a dead clock and radio, and I have power at both fuses, which leads me to believe it's a ground problem. Where do these two go to ground? Thanks, it's bugging me that the clock doesn't work, but even more so is the fact that the radio doesn't work. If I can't make sure the wiring is good for that, who is to say a new radio will work? Thanks! Jerry
JeepsOLot Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 No one knows where on the body these ground? Jerry
88whitemanche Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Should be the same as the instrument cluster... By the parking brake lever...
JeepsOLot Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks! Well, I guess that's not the problem, as the gauge cluster is working fine. Might be a broken wire, oh what fun!! Jerry
jimoshel Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Have you considered the possibility of both the clock and radio being inoperative?
Dom U Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Have you considered the possibility of both the clock and radio being inoperative? This ^ Also check the fuse on the radio it self. Was it wired properly? Also the radio should have a ground wire it self. It must be grounded properly. Look up the wireing diagram for your radio and make sure its all wired up right.
87MJTIM Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 Does the cig lighter work? That is wired with the clock. If the lighter works, then the clock is bad. On my MJ, the clock display went out. Sometimes, I look at it and it's lit up...and it still keep correct time!
Thiefcatcher Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 I just went through my entire harness....in the end the ETR fuse on your block also controls the clock and radio. Mine was old but tested good. I switched it with my clock radio fuse and voila...it worked. The fuse tested good but try To switch in a new one.
Thiefcatcher Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 They share a common ground and you'll still get power in the circuit even with a bad ETR fuse (that still reads good). In the end it may be a simple issue of the contacts in the ETR block bending over time.
JeepsOLot Posted April 28, 2015 Author Posted April 28, 2015 Thanks, guys, tomorrow, I'll check that fuse. The radio is the original 1988 Jeep radio, and none of the wires look to hacked. I got the back light on the clock to work, but, the display doesn't work. As far as the radio, the 5 amp fuse on the back of it was blown. I replaced it, and still nothing. That is as far as I've got so far. Thanks again for the ideas! Jerry
jimoshel Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 There are two fuses for the radio. A 15 Amp in the fuse panel, and if it's stereo, a 5 amp behind the radio.
