jimoshel
The PS pump went out on my '87 2.5 and I'm having a heck of a time replacing it. Did the original factory set up have a reservoir built into the pump or was it fastened to the radiator brace? On my current set up the pump pulley is 1/2 inch out of alignment to the rear of the rest of the pulleys.Needless to say it goes thru belts pretty good. I have a 1986 and a 1989 FSM and they're no help.
Strokermjcomanche
I had an 88 and 89 mj with the 2.5 , both had the reservoir mounted to the radiator brace .
mjben
My 87 2.5 reservoir was also on the radiator brace...
jimoshel
That's what I thought. But on this one altho the holes are there , there isn;t anything in them nor is there any evidence of anything having ever been there.
Jeep Driver
You can make any pump of any year work. You have the wrong pulley.
jimoshel
I thought about that. When I went thru my pulleys they were all identical. I'll check 'em again tomorrow. Might just utilize ABH and reshape one.
54bobby
was there 2 different belt designs on these trucks? i seem to remember reading some where about v-belts and serpentine belts.
Jeep Driver
86 had the Vbelt and 87up had the serpentine. The mount and intake will determine the pulley, his 87 will require the TBI mount and pulley, the MPI intakes required the 4.0 pulley. There are three generations of intakes for the 2.5 that I'm aware of- 84-90, as you have and he has, then the 90-96 as pictured below, and then the 97+ that requires no mount, the pump bolts directly to the intake. My years may be off a bit.......but that's the jest of it. My guess is he has a plastic pulley.....one for the 4.0 which is more or less centered to the hub. Jeep Driver
To make my point- This pump on my 88 is off a 2004 Grand with the 88 steel pulley that is out that 1/2" further than the straight plastic 4.0 pulley. Image Not Found
yxmj
You can make any pump work....currently on my 87 2.5 I have a 98 XJ pump with a modified bracket....(cut 3/8" out of the middle and welded it back together) But in a pinch ......I built this in the parking lot of Home Depot out of an ABS T with a screw cap and a couple of brass fittings Installed it right there Ran like that for many months before I got around to putting in the new one..... . :MJ 1: . jimoshel
It's the pulley. Never noticed B4 but the but the face of the center hub is flush with the outer edge of the pulley. I need one where the it's recessed approx. 7/16 of an inch. Can't believe it but the only pulley I have like that is on a good engine. Not going to be tearing it apart. Anybody here got the one I need? Or am I going to have to make a run to the Used Parts Emporium? Junk yard.
