Dillithium Posted March 17, 2015 Share Posted March 17, 2015 I just installed WJ lower control arms, am going to do the uppers soon. The lowers have fixed my front pinion angle, meaning I can now reinstall my front driveshaft. However, after removing and reinstalling the front drive shaft at least 5 or so times, I'm really fed up with the transfercase portion of this install. There HAS to be a trick to make this easier, I cannot get a ratchet, a ratcheting wrench or anything usefull in there to make those four bolts easier. All I can do is about 1/4 turn at a time, for four bolts that are all about 4'' long. Is there a tool for this I don't know of? Or a special kind of set up? I've considered dropping the Tcase for it, I kid you not... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mjben Posted March 17, 2015 Share Posted March 17, 2015 I'm guessing somewhere along the lines, someone replaced those 4 bolts with standard hardware. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they should have a smaller diameter head from the factory. Save from the occasional odd-ball replaced bolt, I've always been able to get at them pretty easily with an 8mm ratcheting wrench... FWIW... Blue XJ Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 I still use the stock bolts, but I took a tap and cleaned up the threads in the driveshaft. SW86 Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 No it's correct. At some point they changed the bolts over to a smaller head for easier removal/install. I did as stated above. Clean the d/s threads and they go in by hand until you need to torque them. So either get the newer bolts, clean the threads or continue getting angry because that's how it's going to be lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
