kansashogan Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I called a guy about making me a driveshaft and he told me about $300. I have both yokes so all he has to do to my knowledge is make a new tube and weld it together. I would assume he is going to balance it also. Is this in line with what others paid? Seems kinda high to me but I've never had it done. I appreciate some input, thanks.
Strokermjcomanche Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Do you have a ds that you can have shortened ? Mine cost a $100 to have it shortened with new spicer joints put in . Lengthining the shaft is more money . The 2wd shafts have rubber inside for dampening purposes and MAY give you problems if you areshortening it .
kansashogan Posted January 4, 2015 Author Posted January 4, 2015 I put a 350/700R4 in my 2wd. I have the dana 35 rearend and I have the driveshafts from both vehicles. I noticed the jeep driveshaft is heavy and has the rubber in it. They are different diameters-the jeep one is bigger. Both driveshafts are plenty long.
Jeepman Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Ya $300 seams high to me... Around me it's like $60.00 a Weld and the tube which is usually like $7-10 a foot then balance so id say it would be more reasonable around $150-$200
1987Comanche Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 It cost me $100 to have a d/s shortened & rebalanced. Quote to build from scratch was $275. If you have the yokes a new stick should only be $75 or so. I think $200 is reasonable for new d/s using existing yokes.
Blue XJ Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Does seem a little too expensive, that's more than the going rate around here. Mine are double cardan shafts, but the last one I had lengthened, balanced and new ujoints cost me about $260.
AeroNautical Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 To have my drive shaft shortened, I supplied the u joints and yoke, with a balance, cleaning and paint cost me $60. Sounds like I got a steal.
Blue XJ Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Thats a good price, they charge $80 just to balance at the shops by me.
