thejim42
Anyone ever put a zj dash in an mj?
onlyinajeep726
Don't think it's feasible to do so... Aside from the mechanical fabrication, you'd likely have to swap over the entire dash harness, which would not be readily compatible with the MJ harnesses, ECU and TCM. Even if you had a manual transmission, you'd probably get a CEL if you could adapt the electronics.

thejim42
I've got one for my 88. Trying to figure out what to do with the 86 chassis I have. Scoping out ideas right now. I don't have the heart to roll it over the scales
shelbyluvv
I have a 5.2 Magnum V8 in my 86 Comanche. I toyed with the ZJ dash and abandoned it. Read through my Black Betty thread for ideas.
onlyinajeep726
You can do the '97+ XJ dash and use a ZJ 5.2/5.9. That has been done a few times with success.
neohic
There was pictures of a gray MJ floating around years that had a V8 swap with a ZJ donor and the guy swapped the whole dash over. Everything seemed to fit with trimming but if I remember right there looked like there was just about zero leg room under the dash. Can't find it right now, but I know it's out there... :hmm:
shelbyluvv
The 97+ dash swap depends on the year of the donor ZJ. To use the newer dash you will need the wiring from a 96 or newer ZJ. My donor was a 93 and it was OBD-I and allowed me to keep the old style dash.
Stover
I didn't do the dash, but I did swap in a ZJ center console in my 1990 MJ. It actually fit pretty sweet between my two captains chairs. Awesome storage compartment and finally, cup holders that actually work.
