Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Posting this because sooner than later the bumper will change. I'm fairly certain I'm over the lowered Comanche thing. Currently collecting lift parts. Anyway here she is. Miss Kay is the Comanche Lexy is the chopped Wagoneer. Will post more pics if yall want.
Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Also, so its documented somewhere, in the event that someone else is looking for ideas, I lowered the truck using S-10 Blazer lowering springs I believe they were 3 inch drop for the Blazer. The front i cut the stock coils. Overall drop is in the neighborhood of 3 TO 4 inches lower.
dasbulliwagen Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Cool. Could you give some more details on the front Mazda bumper? And we love pictures, the more the merrier.
Minuit Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Not gonna lie, I think that looks really cool. IMO it'd look even better lifted.
Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Mazda bumper went on with no mods to it. I used the mj bumper brackets and 1/2 inch spacers to mount it. I did have to add a strap to attach to the bottom bracket bolts. Ill get pics up in a bit. And thanks for the compliments.
Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Wait i just caught that. Minuit, you think i should keep that bumper setup and lift it?
Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 As far as the fitment goes, its pretty good. I had to cut the fenders and the flares so the bumper would sit right. I never got to making it fit flush with the fender, or making the opening transition smooth.
Blood of a Jeep Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 Oh and here is when i was toying with adapting a ZJ bumper. Ultimately, I was going for my version of a street Comanche.
shawn Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 i like this. the zj bumper looks cool but maybe just a touch wide to look really good. on the 3rd pic, it's weird to see the control arms pointing up to the axle. if i ever see another cheap 91 2wd id like to try something like this.
johnny quest Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 any side shots of the truck overall?
AMCJeepMJ Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Also, so its documented somewhere, in the event that someone else is looking for ideas, I lowered the truck using S-10 Blazer lowering springs I believe they were 3 inch drop for the Blazer. The front i cut the stock coils. Overall drop is in the neighborhood of 3 TO 4 inches lower. Did you have to modify the driveshaft length to do this pull of the rear drop? What kind of shocks were used in the rear with the new S10 leaf springs? For the front, what kind of track bar and drag link did you use due to the lowered suspension? Is the front axle [or axle tube] hitting any underbody components under full compression?
Blood of a Jeep Posted October 2, 2014 Author Posted October 2, 2014 The only thing modified was the springs. Everything else is stock. All bumpstops are gone. At all 4 corners the axle to frame space is 1.5 up front 3 ish in back. The current bumpstops are the shocks. Driveline angle isnt great, but no vibes currently. The front axle is shifted to the passenger side because of the trac-bar and the geometry up front is all bad. As far as ride goes, if i had shorter shocjs it'd be ok. My end game was c-notch the rear frame, box in and plate to re-enforce. Up front i was going to notch the axle and bend it for camber, much like Xj-r's Cherokee. I was also going to try the same shocks they used. But, for now she'll probably return to stock height plus 2 or so. And pictures will come soon. But for now i gotta get some sleep.
AMCJeepMJ Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Thanks; if you could post some pics of the rear setup I would be grateful.
rmoore1031 Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I like how those bumpers look. Would have never thought of that myself.
