Jeep Driver Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hesco sells the 2.5 RV cam for $289 and states that valves and retainers must be replaced. I'm looking at a master kit from Mabbco, they advertise custom cam grinds, RV cam is available for an additional $90. I called them this morning with a couple of questions and they tell me that If I go with the RV I will need to go carbed or change out to a 'learning' injection/ignition system, that Renix is not compatible with the cam. Have you guys installed a RV cam with Renix or early HO and not remapped?
cruiser54 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 That's funny. Golen specifies a cam FOR a carbed 258 for their 4.0 stroker!!
mnkyboy Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I haven't ran mine yet but from what ive read my MPI should be able to handle my Mopar performance cam. If not I will have to send out my ECU for flashing, I may end up having to go that route with all the combined mods to my engine. Not sure what you would need to do with the Renix setup.

The guy who will know is Benny Fulps at Hesco. Good go-to guy and knows about everything. I'd give him a call @ (205) 251-1472 and pick his brain.
mnkyboy Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I just shot a message off to Hesco earlier today about my 2.5l for ECM tuning.

Have you guys installed a RV cam with Renix or early HO and not remapped? The MAP that Renix uses is a simple Chevy style MAP. You can buy various MAPs by Accel like I did when I built my stroker. Look for 85-92 Camaro or 87-91 Chevy truck ones if you want a direct plugin.
mnkyboy Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I got an adjustable MAP for mine, haven't played with it yet though.

I did speak to Benny today, he told me the guy didn't know what he was talking about and that I didn't have to do anything regarding intake and ignition.

Benny's been around a long time and knows his stuff. They sell a lot of RV cams for the Renix 2.5's and 4.0's. Mine at first was in an OBD1 system and no remapping was required.
Eagle Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Hesco sells the 2.5 RV cam for $289 and states that valves and retainers must be replaced. Valves, or valve springs? I can't imagine any reason to replace the valves, but most cam kits either call for or require new springs, new keepers (retainers), and new seals.

Jeep Driver Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Yeah, I could end up with $500 in a head, $300 in the cam, rods and lifters..........and I really want the double roller timing set too........another $200. You know the story......wheels or tits..........

mnkyboy Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 I just shot a message off to Hesco earlier today about my 2.5l for ECM tuning. Well dead end there, got a message back today from Hesco. They say they cannot flash my MPI ECM or any other Jeep ECM.
