pettus253
1991 2.5l 2wd. Last night it ran. This morning...not so much. New cap and rotor, newer spark plugs and wires, coil is working fine...figured it out the hard way. Starter is engaging. Has gas. Fuses and relays are good. What am I missing to check? Anyone else have this issue where it stops running out of no where? Need help ASAP.
87MJTIM
Does it crank, but not fire? I would say CPS.
pettus253
It cranks and acts like it wants to start. Sounds like it's trying to combust in the engine. I've tried starting fluid and poured a little gas to see if it wasn't getting gas and nothing, I hear the fuel pump kick on when I turn the key over. If it's the CPS, where is it located? 87MJTIM
Contects to the top of the trans bell housing. The wire comes up the back of the engine at the valve cover. Check out Cruiser54's Renix Tips in the DIY section, #7 on his list. There is a diagram. http://comancheclub.com/topic/36382-cruisers-renix-tips/

88whitemanche
You'll be better off buying a new one than jy parts...you can have it as a spare IF it's working properly for temp purposes...

Agreed, changing the CPS is a major beach. Even more so if you come to find out the one you pulled from the jy is a dud. No matter what you decide to do, follow the tips and do the modifications in the writeup posted above.
Minuit
+1 on the above. Not only would I recommend buying a new one, but I would also recommend you buy a decent quality one. Don't end up like me and end up having to change the CPS twice in a month because you bought a cheap one.
