Automan2164
Captains log... Update. Other than this problem: http://comancheclub.com/topic/42982-stay-away-from-omix-ada/ Had a good day today. Awhile back, I had seen an ad on CL for a '98 Cherokee Limited for cheap. It was originally from Montana, had higher miles and a rod knock, no rust, and no title. He wanted $1200 for it whole. I was excited because I thought it was black with the same pinstripe mine had... Only to find out that it was actually green. (My eyes, black/green, and a computer don't jive) I sent him a text asking if he wanted to sell me the front clip. He said he was really only trying to get rid of it whole. I asked for the backstory, and he filled me in. Lady had it towed into his shop not running. He put some oil in it and fired it up. Had a rod knock to beat the band. They called her and told her it needed a motor, and she just left it to them. He bought it from the shop for scrap value, and asked the owner for the title. Turns out, she had bought it from a 'Buy here, Pay here' place, and hadn't received the title after paying for it. The dealer had closed down, and there was no way to track them down. He said she seemed over it, and laughed about how long it took for her to finally bring the keys in for it. He had plans to turn it into a wheeler but couldn't bring himself to cut it up. I just wished him good luck with the sale, and to keep my number if he changed his mind. Yesterday was the day he changed his mind. I went over and picked over it today. It was almost a shame... Ended up getting the front clip, a good matching full sized spare that had only touched the ground a couple times to replace my compact spare, and some tweeter grilles. The front clip is surprisingly rust free... But shows it's miles... Rock chips, scratches... Has the trademark 'checking' that the dark colors do on some of these. Hopefully not a big deal with having to repaint it. Even the flare studs look clean. No rust other than were a chip or scratch is, but even at that, just surface/flash rust. Also took some time to start dismantling mine. That's where I left off for the night. I started drilling all the spot welds, but wanted to wrap up and get things put away before it got too dark, as well as finish up some chores. More updates to come as I get them. huck731
automan, I'm glad you where taken care of in the end. I feel the pain, as I lost a vw over a hit and run once and couldn't afford the replacement panels. I noticed the Wisconsin tags on the 250, unfortunetly, most of them big diesel guys drive like that... at least in my town.
JeepcoMJ
Rob, you sure you need to swap that inner fender? I have fixed worse than that.
Automan2164
Rob, you sure you need to swap that inner fender? I have fixed worse than that. It's torn and boogered up pretty good. I already have a good run on the spot welds, just a matter of getting back down to it today. We grabbed that silver one... It's not going to take too much effort to just get that sucker buzzed on. Be a lot cleaner that banging the crap out of the existing one, and it will still look like turd from the inside. Rob

Automan2164
Well... It's back on the road, but lets do the picture story version: In addition to the accident damage, I upgraded the intake manifold, added a cold air intake from BigSarge since my airbox got crushed, the the V/C gasket, and finally resprayed/mounted my Jeep/Mopar cargo bin I picked up in the JY. Automan2164
How's she drive Rob? The ride/alignment is just as it was before. The power now seems a lot smoother and more complete. Just off idle when pulling away from a stop light, the difference is noticeable. It requires a lot less pedal to get the same effort as before. The top end I don't play with much. I dropped the hammer twice now just to see, and it lunges forward with a lot more enthusiasm. I wish I would have been able to drop in a stock airbox so I could get a clean comparison of what contributed more to the power gains, but I just wanted to get it on the road. I also have a set of 703 injectors waiting on the bench. I tend to drive like an old man so I am more after smooth efficiency. I'm hoping that because it requires less pedal to get the same result as far as power goes, that I can see some gains. More power is great and all, but I rarely would need it. I only go 5 over the speed limit at most, and use cruise constantly. Last tank on the XJ before just filling was a 19.4 MPG average. Best so far was a highway trip where I filled up just before getting on, then did again on the way back home. Got 25.4 IIRC. Rob

When are you going to install the Bosch 0280155703 injectors? Are you going from the single port stock Mopar injectors to the 703's? I also have a set of these I haven't put in yet, and would love to hear your results.
terrawombat
I went from the single port stock Mopar injectors to the 4-port Bosch 0280155700 on my 2001 XJ. I saw no increase in fuel mileage or power gain. The only thing that injectors seemed to help was my heat soak issue of restarting the vehicle after a brief shutdown, although that was mostly limited to 2000-01 XJs with the precats sitting directly under the intake manifold. terrawombat
No problem Don. I was coaxed into purchasing them because of lavish claims of 1-2MPG gains after installation. It seemed like a no-brainer so drop $100 on a set since my payback time would only be a few tank fulls. Over 30K on those injectors and I still have not made my money back... Automan2164
I have to imagine that the gains some see may be from just the actual replacement of the injectors. If you have a well kept fuel system in good order, I'm sure the gains wouldn't be as much as if you were replacing worn, tired injectors. I am excited to see what they might do, but I want to try to get a tank or two through it so I can evaluate any difference from a more level plane. terrawombat
I concur. If any gains were seen from swapping injectors is was because the stock injectors had seen better days. Simply going from a single-spray to multi-spray pattern is not going to produce enough HP/Tq gains that the 'ole butt dyno is going to feel. Many have claimed that the engine feels "smoother" through the entire RPM range, but again, even on the stock injectors I never felt that the engine was rough or sluggish at any point. What a lot of people seem to forget is that when you alter and/or improve fuel (or air) patterns, you also need to re-tune the ECU to get the most out of it. Unfortunately on the 97+ ECU's that tuning is not cheap or easy and there is really only one player in the game that has full access to the entire ECU (SCT Performance). Sir Sam
Been there many times, easy repair the one you just had, when I was flipping cars I would have loved to pick that up for $600 from auction.....when in reality it would probably sell for more like 2k here. This was a pretty similar repair I did awhile back: http://colorado4wheel.com/images/portfolio/samsauto.html
