ryanawall
Hi everyone. This is my first post but I've been reading on the forum for a while now. Thank you all for the information I have already gained from you. I just got my MJ about a month ago after totaling my JK. I just wanted to share what was going on today and see if anyone has any input. This morning I had a no start condition. I traced the problem down to the ignition relay and was able to bypass it by jumping the starter off the battery. I called Napa and ordered a new relay which should be here in a couple of hours. I've been running some errands for a couple hours now without turning the engine off. I get to a stop where I'll be inside for a couple of hours and shut her down. Just to see what happens I turned to key to start and she started right up. I just thought it was odd. Any thoughts?

gogmorgo
What year? Also what engine/transmission combo? If it's an automatic (aw4), you might want to look into this: http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neutral-safety-switch-nss/ If you've got issues with reverse lights, or it won't start in park but will in neutral, this is likely your issue. Definitely not worth the big bucks they want for a new one. I just recently cleaned up my NSS following the above link, and it put an end to me having to short the solenoid a couple times a week. I threw a bead of RTV around the gasket when reassembling it for good measure.
ftpiercecracker1
What year? Also what engine/transmission combo? This would be very helpful OP. http://comancheclub.com/topic/36382-cruisers-renix-tips/ This should be a requirement for all Renix owners, seriously. OP, if your truck is either an 1987,88,or 90 you should really REALLY take the time and do the procedures described in the link.

Minuit
It appears to be an 86 and I'm gonna guess 2.8L. We can't help him without knowing for sure.
ryanawall
Sorry for taking so long to reply. It is an 86 with 2.8L. A904 transmission. It did the same thing today. No start cold. Jumped the starter to battery. After a short drive (<5 min) starts with the key every time.
ryanawall
I just replaced the relay. The battery post on the relay was loose. I hope that fixed it, I'll check in the morning.
