54bobby
guys, my bumper is probably the only rust on the truck. that being said, how are the fey bumpers? tried the search but really got nada. my front chrome is excellent so I'm looking at the chrome rear but 2x the price of the black. how hard to mount? bolt right on? Eagle
The Fey universal is "okay." The chrome ones have rather thin chrome plating and if you live in the rust belt they WILL rust. Painted or chrome, before mounting you should heavily rust-proof the "back" side of the bumper. They don't mate up to the Jeep mounting brackets. Fey sells bracket kits to mount their bumpers to MJs. Last time I bought a set the brackets cost about $18 for the pair.
87Warrior
I am going on the 2nd year with a Fey bumper on my 86. It is a bit wider than factory and doesn't fit quite as snug to the body. It did save my tail light, but not the bed corner, in a slip-of-mind moment backing into a tree. Thus far, the only rust to show itself has been where the paint buckled where it bent when I backed into said tree. The MJ brackets work and mount using the factory locations on the rear frame. They are a bit undersized for my liking, but do their job. I would never trust towing with the Fey bumper.

krustyballer16
I built my own to look like a stock bumper... Coulda had it powpowdercoated "chrome".. http://comancheclub.com/topic/41835-built-a-new-stock-bumper/
aaronbtxnc
I got the Fey for mine and also used the factory mounts, took a bit of persuasion to get to fit but worked out fine. Sure looks better than the rusted shell that I had.
54bobby
when u say u used the factory mounts, did u NOT buy the install kit?
aaronbtxnc
Correct, PO welded tow hitch to original Comanche bumper mounts as well as to frame under bed so removing bumper mounts was out of question as I didn't want to lose tow hitch. gogmorgo
I wouldn't trust a hitch welded to the frame of an MJ. It's not solid steel like most truck frames; it's just a bunch of layers of sheet metal.
