88whitemanche
What's up guys Yesterday I was driving to the park and just around the corner of the park the truck shuts off completely(engine only not lights)...I was making a turn and the steering wheel got hard. At first I thought the belt ripped but noticed the engine wasn't running so I popped the clutch and got it going...got to the park and as I was parking the truck shuts off again and I couldn't get it to start again.... So after the game I went to go to diagnosing the truck, check fuel and it was getting fuel, truck was cranking but no spark....finally after wiggling some wires and disconnecting some sensors...I finally got it going but now it's running fine... Prior to this I was noticing it had a very low idle... This weekend I was refreshing my grounds, and cleaning with electronics cleaner on sensors and wires. Idle did get better but up until yesterday it went back to low idle... This morning I got it going and it ran great. No low idle, I left house to grab coffee, parked went back and fired right up no struggle, drove to work parked the truck tried to restart and fired right up.... Any clues as to what this may be? It's my dd and I do a lot of hwy driving and I don't want it to shut off on me in the middle of the hwy
onlyinajeep726
Have you ever cleaned the C101 connector? Also, is the TPS adjusted correctly?
88whitemanche
I Have done the connector 101 cleaning and refreshing grounds I will get a chance after work to check for tps adjustment... Any other things to look at?
onlyinajeep726
CPS perhaps? If it's a manual transmission, it may need a cleaning since worn off clutch material likes to stick to it, causing it to not pick up well. Throttle body may need cleaning as well as IAC. 88whitemanche
Throttle body was cleaned a few months ago Idle speed control was replaced a year ago And have a pic of where the cps is?
carnuck
Take the coil off the ignition pack and clean the connectors between and make sure the dist cap connectors aren't corroded. The extra high resistance took out my module friday after driving to Canada. Stole the coil/module off my son's MJ he wrecked and I was rolling again. CPS is on the edge of the bellhousing behind the head on the driver's side. The wires tend to melt to the exhaust if not routed correctly.
88whitemanche
Just to update this thread...truck has been running good since Wednesday morning... Today after work riding halfway home the truck starts bucking and backfiring...pulled over to the side and check my muffler to see if it exploded couldn't really tell because right side is the on ramp and left side was 5 lines of cars flying past me 55+ mph...truck kept running at a 1500 idle. Got off hwy and drive through the bottom and 3 blocks away the truck shuts down...kept looking at cables, vacuum hoses, etc.. I remember reading through another ones thread about the cps wires being burned on the exhaust...looked at the wires coming down from the cps bam! Melted wires bonded together!!!! Pulled it off the exhaust and tried to start the truck. Struggled but kept stepping on the peddle to keep the engine running....finally got home and hope to work on it on Saturday to get a full days work in to see what can I do to fix those wires... onlyinajeep726
There you go man... Good stuff. A new CPS is about $35 at the parts store, even the premium one I found was a $1.00 more.

88whitemanche
Welp...truck had cooled down...and it fired right up...so I finally parked inside the gate and left it running...I kept it running for a good 20min with about 1500 rpms and I just happen to step on the brake and the rpm level drops to 300rpm then let it keep idling rev back to 1500rpm and backfires and bucked then died and now can't start it.... Before starting it I cleaned the battery terminals and clean the electrical parts to the truck.... Could this be a sign of a cps? I mean the wires were burnt but I separated then and the truck fired right up... Now it doesn't want to start....
onlyinajeep726
Well, I read from here that people suggest either Mopar or Napa premium. However, I got mine before I learned that and mine was just the basic one from AutoZone... Hasn't failed me yet (knock on wood).
88whitemanche
Any one with experience with this? Where your driving for a while or idle then hit the brakes the truck dies completely

Strokermjcomanche
If you have burnt wires I would definitely start there . Even though there separated your asking for trouble . Start with the obvious and go from there
cruiser54
Check to see that the engine to trans bolts aren't loose.
deziped1
Had very similar problem past week. Start & run for a few seconds when it felt like it. Sometimes start & run fine all day but die when it felt like it, hot or cold. Started at CPS and worked backwards through fuel pump ballast, spark, injectors, had elect & fuel at all points. Turn ignition on hear fuel pump run. As long as ignition is held in start position the starter will keep it actually running at 1000 RPM & up until it starts sucking air and dies like from fuel starvation. As a last resort I pulled fuel pump relay and swapped with the one next to it. Truck started fine all day today and even runs smoother. Turns out the relay has an internal problem and only was working intermittently at its discretion. I assume it was in a fluttering contact mode for some reason. Probably is the reason it was having hiccups now and then do fuel cut off at all speeds. All appears to be well now.
88whitemanche
I did swap the relays from the one next to it..even cleaned and pulled the metal pieces for better contact and it will start fine but once it warms up and I'll go and step on the brake or something it'll want to shut down
88whitemanche
Just swapped cps. truck is running doesn't do t he fluctuating idle when pressing the brakes.... The previous cps has seen it's better day considering it was full of old oil residue mud and dirt.... Will be updating this thread while I keep driving the truck
88whitemanche
Well it's not the cps...drove the truck trying to get to my house to test it and as soon I hit the brakes there's a sudden drop of the rpm....I barely made it off the hwy...now sort of stranded at a gas station...truck starts no problem but still with the rpm dropping
88whitemanche
Can anyone help please!!!!! I'm literally stranded...
deziped1
So I guess your saying the problem shows up when you step on the brakes.. That would sure slow your RPM's, but, to the point of stalling! Maybe your brakes are applying and not releasing immediately. Maybe its a short in your electrical system being caused by the brake light switch. If the brake are contributing to the problem I would start looking there.
