Cb Radio And Antenna?

Recommended Posts

alright folks, i ripped the cb outta my MJ when i first got it cause it was right at the gas pedal and my big foot would hit it plus i had nobody to talk to on a cb, joined a few jeep clubs in my area and would like to talk to em on the roads so i bought a little cobra 19 plus today but i have no idea where to mount it (within arms reach and outta foot range) that won't be in the way of my shifter (bein that i have a manual) and that's not in the way of the radio (most important equipment in a truck), any ideas on where to mount it, places yall have mounted a cb before? also i'm lookin for an antenna but don't know what length whip to get or what kind, any advice on that?

This works perfectly for me. It's within reach at my knee, doesn't get in the way of the shifter, gives the passenger plenty of leg room. My antenna is mounted on my tool box, but it's a 102" whip, probably longer than what you've got. I'll see if I can get a picture of that up.

now that's an idea, didn't think of that due to my mic clip bein there, does the mic cord get in the way of shiftin any? and a 102" whip is 102" longer than what i have, my old cb antenna on my mj was broke when i bought the truck, so that's the next thing i'm buyin,

This is how I mounted it:

Quick DIY I made to keep it from hitting trees:

Sorry, I misread your post, for some reason I though you said you had the antenna, not sure why.

The chord does not get in the way of shifting, but if I'm using it a lot I move the chord in front of the shifter, if it's off then I have it behind, just because it bounces a bit when it's in front.

How about on the dash above the radio? Mic can be mounted to the side of the CB or on the clock bezel. That is how it was in my MJ.

In my XJ it was mounted on the passenger side of the transmission.

i've been thinkin bout on top of the dash slightly right of the radio since i bought it, i gotta play around with spots to mount it, i gotta get a mountin bracket first though or make one,

used to use a compact cb w/weather and a mag mount on the rear bumper --- the radio was mounted in place of the ashtray --- worked ok --- changed trucks nothing mounted yet

hmmm, in place of the ashtray, that's a great idea although that's where i have people throw gas money at lol. although that's a place to try, and a weather antenna?

Anybody ever seen a CB mounted from the ceiling, above  and behind the rear-view mirror?

.

I have had that idea ever since I first bought my '92 Laredo XJ, which has an overhead console with some empty space - maybe enough to hold a small CB radio. Might have to get a bit creative to provide venting to prevent the radio from overheating... One other big consideration: I am leery of having sharp corners to bang into anywhere in the interior (particularly in  potential range of my head!).

i've seen em mounted like that but only in cj and tj, never noticed how though

I have my cb mounted to the back wall of the cab between the seats. The antenna is mounted to the roll bar.

mounted to the back wall of the cab? i'd like to see that,

The photo is not great but mine is mounted to the front panel of the ash tray.  I'm not sure what dimensions you are dealing with, but mine fit just snug, the MIC is right there on the left.  There is no intrusion into either foot well, no leg or knee bumps...

makes sense, and is that bungey cord? lol also, who makes your antenna?

No actually, its a carabiner, a compression clip so it doesn't slide on the antenna, and some 550 chord. $5 total at lowes, but I have spools of 550 chord. Might look weird, but it gets the job done.

You know, I can't honestly remember who made that antenna. The CB is a Cobra 29 LTD U.S. Army edition, and I think it came in a kit.

I'll see if I can scrounge up some pics. In my Broncoii I started with a suped up Cobra29 mounted above the radio on the dash. The Coax was being visually sun damaged. Then I mounted my Galaxy959 on the roof above the rear view mirror, which worked out great. It was out of the way, and I was able to hide my TexasStar between the radio and headliner.

I plan to do the roof mounted CB again when I install one on my MJ.

i've been thinkin bout on the dash but the sun damanged coax cable is a factor i didn't think of, thanks for that heads up

This is where I put mine in my XJ...

seen em mounted like that before, i'd mount mine like that if i didn't have to replace my head board linein, maybe once i replace it i'll mounted up like that

My old TJ had a 5' firestik I sold the stik and got a 102 & if you have a bench seat mount the radio under the seat

how'd the 5' firestik work? i don't like the fact of havin an almost 9' antenna lol, and i didn't think of under the seat but i do want it visable to me

i'd like to see that,

Not the best picture, but it should work

that makes more sense as far as behide the seat but i don't have bucket seats, only a bench but that is a good idea

I would wait and install it like "Onlyinajeep" did. That's where I mounted my Galaxy, and IMO the best spot for a CB/HAM.

Unless you got creative and built a custom center console.

custom center console? lol i have 3 consoles already, 1 i can't use at all, 1 that's half way broke and another one that if i install when i shift into 5th the shifter lever hits the plastic piece that holds the console on, i'm still workin on a fix for that, but i'm off today untill 630 tonight so i might tinker and find a place to mount it,
