AeroNautical
I have that same problem with my passenger side window. If it goes down too far, it falls into the door and you have to use pliers to get it. Once I do I just keep that window up or cracked, as I haven't gotten around to fixing it. What I'm going to do is get a new door, because it's easier and cheaper to do that than it is to buy and replace the regulator. How? Junkyard is your friend. ComancheKid45
The regulator is cake to replace, but finding them, mainly manual 1s can be a challenge at times

When I went from electric to manual windows on my XJ, I didn't have a bit of trouble swapping them. I will likely put those electric motors in my MJ when I start converting everything to power. ftpiercecracker1
The regulator is cake to replace, but finding them, mainly manual 1s can be a challenge at times OP has manual windows, no regulator to be had. I believe that the worm gea in the metal track inside the door is stripped. I had to replace mine on both doors and have determined that i will find a set of power doors and swap them in before going through that again. I suggested to the OP that he find a cherokee with a good working manual window and just swap out the whole door, replacing those PITA torx bolts with traditional hex heads. Is there any difference between the 86 year model and the rest of the MJs as far as doors go? All Cherokee doors are still direct swaps right? With the understanding that 97+ have a different door striker of course.

jimoshel
All the doors on 1984 thru 1995 are directly interchangeable. 2 Door XJ and MJ. There are others but those are the only years I'm personally familiar with. On the early years the mechanism is held in with bolts and screws. The later years are riveted. APITB. I've removed the rivets by grinding the heads off and by using a hammer and chisel. Can't really recommend one over the other.

jimoshel
In the old days we didn't have, or used decals. We used paint. If you were good you could freehand it. Other wise use masking tape.

NO! 4 dr XJ and Comanche interchange. 2 drs are longer (which is why I was going to use them to make an extended cab MJ) The manual tracks are pretty weak. I have the door panel loose on the driver's side in case I forget and crank my window too far down. I reach in, push the glass up slightly and turn the window crank to get it back up. I have spare red doors for mine with chrome handles and mirrors.
