Mj Rear Step Bumper

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a MJ and the rear bumper is a black step bumper. I know the original style rear bumper is no longer made or available. Soooooooooo, the question is, what is a good substitute?  I would like something similar to the original, but I don't like the general diamond plate bumpers available, they look too much like a factory FORD bumper.

Taking suggestions here on some alternative bumpers and who sells them.
Thanks

The only thing you'll find is that FEY diamond plate step bumper... or off-road style bumpers. You might get lucky and find a factory one on ebay, or a member willing to sell theirs, but there is very little support out there for the box end of these trucks. Even the FEY bumpers are getting hard to find and most off road places don't support the MJ. JCR is one of the only places I can think of off the top of my head for a rear bumper, it requires some assembly though since it just comes as stamped flat steel that needs bent and welded.

Fey also has bumpers that are a newer style, suitable for an S10 or Ranger. I think those would fit, using the same mounting brackets that Fey sells to mount the diamond plate bumper to an MJ.

However, I haven't actually tried this.

Not to threadjack, but do the Fey's also fit on the longbed MJ's?(1986 Comanche) I can't select our jeep model on their website and I can't find the mounting kit either. I'm currently without a rear bumper, so I'm trying to find a new one.

*edit, the problem is that everywhere I see the bumper it lists 87 as the starting year for it to fit. I'm a little worried it won't fit an 86 longbed.

The JCR looks to be a terrific and quality product.  And now it ships for FREE!

I now have a FEY and Mounts that was sold to me by a member here on CC ( THANKS THANKS THANKS ).

Not sure about the LB vs SB question but I can't imagine that the rear of the frame is actually where the difference would be.

Now my research found the FEY and the Mount Kit is sold at Summit Racing and the shipping from them is heavily discounted lately.

Now I did make a template of the mounts that came with mine. They should be super easy to make up but the mount kit is priced pretty good at $50.

Good Luck!
