My uncle who works for a Police department in north Alabama sent me a Facebook message saying the impound yard is selling Comanche for $300. if its not sold it will be going to the crusher.

Dad was thinking about buying it.. and the more i look at it i am thinking it will make an awesome trail rig 4x4 conversion... (this way I don't damage my Nice pretty MJ)

But my question is if Dad or I buy it what is involved in getting the title?

from his message

They said it runs. It is pretty ragged out. Just needs slave cylinder and tlc.  I have not tried to crank it.

Two wheel drive. Inline six 4liter motor. Bench seat. Its at the impound lot the PD uses and will be crushed if I don't buy it. I don't have the money to fix it up

I think the one thing that bugs me the most is not one of the rims match.. lol

A trip to the local police station or county court house would be the place to answer that question. Every state is different and has their own rules. In Colo the only way to get a title in a deal like that is to contact the owner and see if you can get a title from him. Even without a title it would still be a good buy for parts.

assuming the frame is solid (which it looks to be) id probably do it. id offer less of course since they obviously arent moving it fast enough. its a jeep so parts are cheap and you can work on it over time instead of trying to knock it all out right off the bat.

as far as towing, idk. do you not have anything to pull it with or just no trailer? because theres always uhaul but that costs money too...

Back when we had the F-250 I used a Uhaul car trailer.  I have a WK with the 4.7L V8 but Uhaul Says i Should not (and may not) use their car trailer..  I was thinking about a dolly but i don't know the condition of the tires on the truck.

I may be able to Borrow another uncles Dodge 1500 (again 4.7L V8 but uhaul says its good, I guess because its bigger?)  the only problem is they only have the one Truck and i am unsure if my insurance will let someone other than me use the Jeep (i will be checking into that), I know His insurance will not allow others drive the truck, so he would be coming along as well.

UHaul always has given me grief for towing.  If they say you can't tow a double axle trailer with a trailer brake they are full of S$&*#.  They are just trying to protect their investment.  If the borrower is smart about towing it's not a problem.  You should get a trailer brake installed if you don't already have one.  Do you have the class 3 hitch?  If you only have the class 2 I wouldn't recommend it since they are only rated at 3,500 lbs.  If you have a trailer brake installed with a class 3 hitch go elsewhere to rent a trailer, everyone rents them.

I have a class III hitch, but don't have a brake controller yet.

Uhaul trailers use surge brakes. You do not need a brake controller. Just get a dolly and toss a couple cheap spares in the back if the Grand.

I am thinking this would be my best option

Get all the crap out of the bed would probably lighten it by 50%. Where is it in N. Alabama? Looks familiar.....

its in or round Huntsville, AL

I think dad and or I will be getting it.  mom says I can't put it in her yard till I get rid of red  lol

$300 for a running MJ that looks to be free of rust and just needs a little TLC?

I don't get the question here... Did I miss something?

Rob

When I was first told about it I thought it was an impounded Jeep. I also can but don't have the best method of transportation for the jeep.  But I am going to buy it.  I have made up my mind.. just need to talk to my uncle

so my uncle is going to look at the Comanche tomorrow, if it runs we will buy if not I told him to at least get the tail lights, (I need to add the tailgate to the list)..  if its in good shape I will be sending him the money and he has offered to tow the Comanche down for me, as it turns out they where planning to come down and visit my grandparents anyway. so that's a big plus!
