jimoshel Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Got a lead on a '93 explorer. 40K, 4wd. It's 40 miles away so would like to know if it will work for axle swap before driving that far. Tried search. No useful info.
onlyinajeep726 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 It may or may not have an 8.8 and even if it does, it will most certainly have drum brakes. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Explorer8_8.html
randomguy310 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 it may have the 7.5 depends on what motor it has in it
jimoshel Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Got it. $300 and a 80 mile round trip. 4.2 V6, 8.8 and auto, 4wd. 41K miles. Was just going to do a axle swap but after hearing that V6 run going to do a complete drive train swap into a '87 MJ.
Bmoore2 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 With only 5 digits on the odometer kinda makes you wonder if its 241000 miles.... ;)
ComancheKid45 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 You drove it 80 miles without a serpentine belt!? lol
jimoshel Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Still can't believe i got Photo Bucket to work.
Keyav8r Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I had a 4.0 V-6 Ranger with a 5 speed, think it was a '93. Good engine and tranny but I had to put a clutch in it at around 100 K miles. My son-in-law bought it when I got a GMC and he put another 80 K on it before trading it in. No experience with the Ford auto or 4WD. You coulda done worse, Jim.
jimoshel Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Got a new idler pulley and serp belt on it. Been driving it all over the neighborhood. Sucker runs good. Gonna see if I can't swap it straight across for a Jeep before I part it or sell it..
xjrev10 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 With only 5 digits on the odometer kinda makes you wonder if its 241000 miles.... ;) Or 341000.
jimoshel Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Carfax says it's 141,XXX. TNX Don. I pretty well knew it wasn't 41,XXX when I first looked at it but since I only wanted the rear axle I never worried about it.
Bmoore2 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 With only 5 digits on the odometer kinda makes you wonder if its 241000 miles.... ;)I seriously doubt there is an Explorer on this earth that made it 341,000.... :rotf: still a good find for the money you have in it Jim. Or 341000.
onlyinajeep726 Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Doesn't everyone called them "Exploders" for a reason? lol
ComancheKid45 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Technically with a build date of 8/93 it would make it a 1994 Ford Explorer ;)
mpace6a Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Doesn't everyone called them "Exploders" for a reason? lol beat me to it lol
