TheDirtyJeep401 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Going to get some parts off of a cherokee, does anyone know if a 98 cherokee rear drive shaft will fit a 86 longbed for a 4x4 conversion?
jimoshel Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 A rubber drive shaft will have 8-10 inches of stretch. It might work.
Geonovast Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 A rubber drive shaft will have 8-10 inches of stretch. It might work. XJs didn't have the rubber isolator, so no go with that. You can basically forget any rear XJ shafts. It's been contemplated that certain 2wd XJ shafts may work in 4wd MJ applications, but I haven't seen any comparable measurements. You're going to be better off having yours hacked down than spending time, energy, and money into finding one that'll work.
87manche1 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I got an 94 explorer 4dr rear driveshaft for my soa 4x4 swap

Thats what I was thinking, i was just wondering a guy is parting a cherokee out and he is selling stuff off of it CHEAP in my opinion. Just thought that if it worked id snatch it up.
mvusse Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I have a driveshaft (unless I threw it out already) out of a 2wd Cherokee 4.0/AW4. I can measure the length if I still have it.
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Does this 98 XJ happen to be a 5 speed? No auto for a 4.0
Geonovast Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Damn. Would have made a perfect 5 speed swap for the XJ.
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Anything you are looking for your XJ? he still has some parts if you need anything, he sells them cheap too.
Geonovast Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I think the only thing she needs is an AC hose... but isn't that big of a deal since I've been running without it hooked up for 2 years and basically forgot I had AC..
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Lol, I think he has it but I'm not sure, i was thinking about taking the center console, but i don't know if it would fit in my MJ

TheDirtyJeep401 Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 Ah, the one he had was a 98 and the shifter seemed to be closer to the dash then a 96. But anyway, the center you have, is the style I want.
BillyFry4x4 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I got an 94 explorer 4dr rear driveshaft for my soa 4x4 swap Are the u joints the same on that? 2wd or 4wd? Do you think it would work for a 4wd short bed with SUA?
