No Build Sheet

I asked Jeep for the build sheet for my 1988 MJ. They said that they couldn't give me it since it is too old. Anyone else have this problem? They gave me one for my 1990 XJ.

If you don't mind taking the panel off your drivers side door, that's where I found mine. Not sure if that's common to be there or not.

The 86, 87, 88 build sheet info is sketchy due to being under AMC ownership and not all the info transferring over. If you post your VIN here or PM it to me I can probably get you a little info, like where it was sold, when, and build date info through Chrysler. If there is a build sheet it will only be codes with no descritions. You might be able to find a Chrysler build code book in that case and translate the codes.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've taken the driver's panel off once or twice and didn't find it there. Maybe I'll have better luck when I tear apart the interior. 

VIN is 1JTHS6415JT038387. I know its a a 1988 Jeep Comanche, 2WD, I4, Shortbed, manual everything. What I'm trying to find out is the trim and sun roof history.

I think its a base model or maybe pioneer with a dealer option sun roof. I have access to a Chrysler build code book somewhere online so a build sheet would be awesome! Thanks.

I found the build sheet on my 88 tucked up under the seat springs on the passenger side.

i've found the build sheets behind driver or passenger door panel, in each b pillar behind the trim, behind the rear wall carpet, under the seat springs, under the center console...

 

AMC didn't do anything the same twice in a row...

Thats all Chrysler has on your 87. The build codes are the three digit (Letters) in between all the "descrition not available" things. Like I said, you might be able to look the codes up somewhere. Hope this helps. Sorry, can't give you the original or last known owner info.

Thank you for your help. I'll have to find that decoder sometime.  The previous owner was my brother who is ASE certified and I helped him with some work to the MJ.

I'm still hoping to find it in the interior somewhere.

Since this is what's going on and Chrysler only sent me a build sheet when I contacted them, would it be too much work to run my vin as well? 1J7FJ36S3M1570755. Fair warning, it's a Canadian truck, don't know if that makes a difference. It is a '91. I don't need the build sheet, if that makes your job any easier. I'd just like a little more history than Chrysler gave me. I don't even know the build date, since it's worn off the door sticker.

Just looked your VIN over, It appear there are too many numbers at the end. It should only be 6 numbers. I Changed the 1 to an L and have a good Canadian VIN lookup, just want to make sure its yours. let me know.

Oh, yeah, that's mine. I just pulled that off a sticky note I've had on my desk for quite some time. Looks like I copied it down wrong from my registry entry where it's all in lower case. It's an L everywhere else. Sorry bout that. Corrected the sticky note, too!

Cool, thanks! Doesn't look like it's made it too far... maybe 150 miles from where it was sold. Until now. Although with 300k miles, you really don't know.

Except that it's got new brake rotors put on by me, I wonder what would happen if I showed up at a dealer asking for them recalls? haha.
