It was still working but it was over 14 years old and the electric Co-op was giving away new ones to get people to swap. Seemed like a good deal to me. Unhooked all the pipes, chimney and stuff, got it outside and carried it the 2 miles to the gulley I use for a trash dump. When I set it down by the edge of the gulley I got to thinking it might have been easier to carry if I had drained it first. So I carried it back up to the house and drained it. Then carried it back to the gulley. I was right. It WAS lighter. :eek: Got the electric one all hooked. Must have did it right because it works. I have two sisters. When my parents changed out our gas tank to an electric when I was fourteen, I learned to be the first into the shower... I agree, recovery time on an electric is much slower than a gas. That and they don't usually last as long. DO NOT count on getting 14 years out of the new one. jimoshel Posted April 3, 2013 Author Share Posted April 3, 2013 In my time I've used about every method known to man to heat my water with, Not necessarily in order but , placed a bucket of cold water on a fire or stove, Electric water heater, LPG, natural gas, Kerosene, Coal stove with a water jacket, Solar. I installed new electric water heater in 1998 and its still going strong today.. just had to replace both elements once about 6 years ago.... they last fine.
