Md: 1992 Jeep Comanche Swb 2X4 Ax-15

Time for someone else to enjoy this guy. I simply don't drive it anymore with the other vehicles in my fleet.

  • 1992 Jeep Comanche shortbed
  • 4.0L H.O. engine with roughly 240K miles. Odometer was replaced with full cluster so I'm not positive on true mileage Never been replaced or rebuilt. Runs well, good oil pressure, but does have piston slap when the engine is warm. I have never hesitated to drive it back and forth from MD to NJ and back.
  • AX-15 5-speed. This was replaced with either a new or rebuilt unit prior to me purchasing the truck. It shifts great and does not grind in any gear.
  • Comes with Leer fiberglass cap that is Comanche-specific
Truck was used as a work truck for most of its life. It has dents and dings on every panel, but it is virtually rust-free. Floorpans were patched by previous owner and there is no further rust. Only rust I know of is below the drivers door on the rocker, but it hasn't rotted through and looks to only be on the surface.

Truck has A/C, but one of the lines needs to be replaced and system recharged - it is still setup for R-12.

Truck comes with 15" TJ Ravines. Rear tires have lots of tread left. Front tires are down around 50%.

Currently installing new headliner - should have it finished up this weekend.

Has a clean NJ title. VIN: 1J7FT26S9NL215160 Build date: 3/92

Vehicle is located in Queenstown, MD

Price: $1500 firm-ish

More pictures available upon request.

I may also be able to help you out in terms of getting the vehicle to you.  I need to travel up to NJ one of these weekends and I can bring the truck up with me.  I need to bring my '98ZJ back down to Maryland as I may have a buyer for that.

I can get pics once the weather clears up or if I can get it in my shop (my backyard is currently a swamp).

That would work great.  Tyler keeps saying good things about it so just give me a yell and I can meet up with you.  Do you have a round about date when you will be swinging up to Jersey?

Well, I thought it would be this weekend, but my plans keep changing for one reason or another.  I'll try to let you know a few days in advance so that we can hopefully meet up so you can take a look at it.  It's definitely no show truck and has a lot of dings and dents all around - especially on the bed rails, but the thing it has going for it is the fact it has none of the common rust spots.  It originally came out of Kentucky, lived in Ohio for a summer, came to NJ with me, and is now down in MD.  Rarely ever drove it in the winter because I was always using my '01 XJ w/4WD.  If I remember correctly, it's basically a clone to your '92, but without the 4WD.

I'll try to get some more pics up tomorrow night when I can get it across my lawn without sinking.

Snapped a couple of pics.  Got some shots of the dents, dings, and surface rust.  Took a few shots of the tailgate - it functions okay, but it's just about done and would need to be replaced.

Still trying to get my new headliner in so the interior is all apart.  Once I get that in, I'll clean it up and get some interior pictures up.

Sorry for the late response. Yes, this truck would make it across the country, however, the A/C should really be fixed prior to such a long drive - mainly for the defrost function to work properly.

I used to drive this MJ between NJ and Ocean City, MD every other weekend two summers ago (about a 320 mile round trip). I bought it in Ohio and drove it back to NJ (about 450 miles) sight-unseen and it never skipped a beat.

Sorry for the thread jack, but what's the deal with the front of the driver's side door? Mine had the same type damage when I got it. The fender was pushed in at the same place and there was some interference between the door and the fender. After I adjusted it (with a 2X4 and a 32 oz. ball peen) there's no interference. Just curious what causes the clearance to change so that they contact and bend.

Too bad you didn't have this truck for sale in AL about 15 months ago. I would have been at your front door 30 minutes after the post. I don't think you'll have much trouble selling it.

Again, sorry for the thread jack.

Had an interesting Easter weekend selling vehicles and moving other inventory from my shop back in NJ.  Wound up selling two of my other Jeeps, which has just freed up a lot of finances.  As such, I've decided to hold onto this truck and have something special in mind for it.

Thanks to all that expressed interest and I apologize for wasting anyone's time.

To Keya - I suspect what happened to the fender/door was that the top hinge broke free from the body (like many do) and caused the door to open funny and kinked metal.  It looks like there was a previous repair on the hinge as there is evidence of welding all around it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yea, sorry - keeping it for now.  Was kind of short on space there for a bit and this truck wasn't being driven so it didn't make sense for me to spend the $$ on the insurance.  But in a matter of two days, I unloaded two other Jeeps and sold my motorcycle a couple months ago.  So now I have both room and the finances to keep this truck.

Thanks for that - never ran a check on this truck.  I suspect the odometer rollback was because the mileage was estimated at 225,000.  I'm surprised that they didn't record the mileage numbers when I took it through NJ inspection because a full gauge was swapped in with a lower odometer reading.
