I Bought A New Truck And Need Some Advice

Several months ago, I traded the old tahoe in on an F150 raptor. I really like it. The thing I like most about it is that I can go on ebay and actually see new parts for sale.

For those that don't know about Ford, many believe this is the last year for the current version F150 and rumor is this is the last year for the Raptor (for awhile anyway). That means 2010 - 2013 is it. Raptor is very different than a stock F150. The bed is different. The front fenders are different, the hood, the fender flares. interior. etc.

I am thinking of buying a raptor front bumper and a set of spare rims. I feel like if a bed shows up somewhere, I need to snag that too and front bucket seats. I have two black consoles for my mj, 3 rear bumpers, 1 spare black interior, 4 black seats, plus my original black bench (although I refuse to believe I am as sick as Automan). :rotfl2:

Meanwhile, the raptor has fallen prey to the same victim as the comanche. Those that get them, run them hard. So I would bet their time on earth is limited. If you were me, would you start accumulating parts or is that just the comanche in me coming out? I have made hints of "Limited Production Truck" in the raptor forum but they don't seem to buy it. They think parts will be available for a long time.

So what do you think? Accumulate, hoard, or forget it?

I believe that the Raptor has been something of a monentary failure for Ford. Too high of production cost, too much stuff they were willing to warranty... I would not be surprised if they are gone and don't come back. Of course, I could be totally wrong.

I'd get the stuff that you know the aftermarket will not be supplying later. So, I'd not bother with bumpers, or the rims unless you can't live without them. But a bed, certainly, and interior parts are never a bad idea (especially parts that tend to wear).

Ehh.. I bet you do see a 'raptor' again. But it will be some trim package niceties somewhere down the road and not much more. These low production number vehicles have a way of not really making any money on their first run, but the company managing to wring some dollars later.

Having stuff in reserve is definitely nice but I wouldn't blow hundreds (thousands) of dollars just in case something were to happen to a new vehicle. Not saying it's a bad idea but I wouldn't spend my life savings hoarding parts for trucks that are at most 3 years old. In 10 years or in the case of MJ stuff, sure.

I don't see why Ford would want to cancel the Raptor. I sure see a bunch of them.

How many is a 'bunch'?

The Furd dealer here has sold about 3... I know, because my friend bought one, they told him it was the third, and I see his and two others from time to time.

3 is a horribly insignificant amount of sales for a dealer here.

I think they sell better in some parts of the country than they do in others. Some in my area have one on the lot almost all the time but I see one on the road about once per month. They sell alot of them in the Nevada area from what I understand.

I don't know if they met their sales objective on Raptor or not. But I believe the one I have is close to the end of it's product life. If they decide to keep Raptor, it is still going to be different than the one I have because the new F150 is coming out soon and the Raptor is based on the F150.

My poor MJ has taught me that I may as well start a Raptor hoard next to my MJ hoard. If I would have done that for the MJ 20 years ago, I would be in pretty good shape.

It is really cool though. If you search for a bumper, you can actually find one on ebay. It is a lot more fun than dreaming of finding one. I think I will get a front and rear bumper, maybe some front seats, and a set of spare tires and wheels. Oh and a ... I hope the wife doesnt find out. :brows:

Doesn't Ford have to make parts for 10 years after the production run?

I know that is the case with Sterling when they put their name on a Dodge Ram about 5 years ago. They have to make that special grill available... For 10 years.
