H.O. head swap

Recommended Posts

fiscus is right..just get a complete motor and it's computer. you will still need to change your fuel lines to run to the fuel rail, and you'll need to put the HO downpipe on as they are different.

make sure while you're doing it you check your exhaust manifold for cracks.

Don't worry about the computer, you can run the HO on the Renix computer!

Here's a write-up if you're interested:

I know of 2 people who have HOs with peugots & no problems so far...

People are under the impression that the HO head is what gives the later motors their power. It does slightly, but that's not all. The intake is different (larger bores) and with the raised ports, gives a straighter shot at the intake valves (If I ever get time and $$ to do it, my design would be even better for volumetric efficiency, but compression ratio would need to be dropped a bit to stop pinging)

The throttle body is larger bore. The injectors are bigger (slap a set of HO injectors in a Renix rig and watch the power pick up! You'll pass all but the gas station!) The exhaust header flows better too.

One of the biggest kickers however is the cam shaft timing retard. By doing that, the power band is moved into the higher RPM range which also allows for more HP to be built up and believe it or not, it's a side benefit of cutting the VE (volumetric efficiency) to reduce engine ping and NOx, so they could do away with the EGR valve at the same time.

Also keep in mind that the motor uses more fule to make more power  ANd as pointed out the increase in power is in the upper rpm band, not down low where you want it and need it.

Yes a HO head will bolt to a renix motor, and it is pretty straight forward, you will need a different valve cover gasket then what comes in the older gasket sets. Also need to use the older renix style exhaust manifold, or plug off the exhaust riser that is under the intake

Now I'm curious if I can run the Renix setup with HO computer (the HO intake won't clear my brake booster in the Jtruck or Spirit, which means Hydroboosting the brakes to clear it)

sure you can. The largest problem you'll have is adapting the renix TB to the HO TPS.

other than that, just swap out the renix electronics for the HO ones.

You might run into some pinging issues, adn the HO computer was designed to run with a different camshaft.

Might I ask why you'd not want to run the Renix ECM?

It doesn't have the EFI already in it, and there isn't any room under the dash to put it in (due to AC and wiper arms in the way) plus it's a LOT more labor intensive to wire in (HO is all under the hood and weather proof with better connectors) I was thinking along the lines of just using the HO throttlebody on the Renix manifold but my mind wandered before I mentioned adding the knocksensor to the HO efi. (forgot that important point!)

not sure if you would be interested, but i have a 95 HO engine for sale. only has about 50k on it. there is a pic or two of it in my FS topic (Lots of parts FS in Ohio). not sure which page the pics are on, i think 2 or 3 IIRC.
