if it happens under hard throttle or lugging the motor it could be detonation. try better gas or check your plugs and timing if it's an older motor -
My 88 needs mo power. Whats needed for a H.O. head swap, will it even work?

I just finished my SOA conversion. If you reuse your shock plates and put them between the spring perch and leaves you can get out of buying new shocks, but you will need a mid 90's dakota rear brake hose. other than that it should be a breeze
