89 MJ Totalled, the Resurrection!

Recommended Posts

My son rolled our MJ last winter. I decided to fix it instead of scrap it! So the resurrection begins!

Ron (my sheet metal mechanic/body and fender friend)picked up the donor top today, I picked this up and cut it off a 86 MJ in Charlottsville VA a few months ago(from a member on here) for $80 plus a hood. He removed the top sheet metal that he will need to repair the crushed top.

Her it is before the de-skinning

Then after removing the skin. He will use the front cross brace and the pass side "side" brace as well.

Stay tuned! The next step is cutting the crushed metal off the MJ then grafting the new metal on!

I still need a short bed(rust dent free) both doors and a RF fender to finish off the parts pile.

Here it is after the roll, the A/B pillars are straight and there was no frame damage. The 4.0 still runs great even after running upside down for 5min while my son was passed out!

Someone hook me up with a good bed in the VA/NC area! Please(begging) LOL!

i know on one in jamestown... our local junkyard has one comanche and the bed is in fair condition.. tailgate not to good and no taillights... but other than that pretty clean

My tailgate and tail lights are good! Find out what he wants for it and I will see if I can get a trailer and make the trip!

Edit: I just realized you are in Jamestown TN not VA. I use to live in Nashville so your about 5.5 hours from here and that is laying the hammer down! But if the price is right, I'll run it in a day if I have to.

The sheet metal is off and ready for the replacement top. I just have to remove the rear glass(carefully!) and it will be ready for Ron, my sheet metal/body fender guy to do his magic!

I found a rust free/mostly dent free bed in Greenville SC, going to pick it up in a few weeks Yay!

I want to thank everyone on here that answered the call about a bed. I had many offers and its always impressive how the Jeep community always comes through for one another!

I feel ya!

I remember when my son recked my comanche. It was his at the time. He wrecked it twice, but the 2nd time I needed to score a long bed.

Found one in NC and made the trip as it was only 100 bucks from a member on here or jeepforum... I think it was here. Been a couple of years ago. It was rust / dent free and is on the truck now. I also ended up buying some wheels/tires and bedliner from that same dude. Good luck on the rebuild.

Are you going to let your son drive it ever again? :P

He owns it now, he bought it from us after the wreck and is paying for the repairs.

Thank You!

Man, am I glad to see this. I had thought that would be the end for it. Keep posting! I want to see how this turns out.

By the way, any extra modification plans since you are doing all this metal work?

Thank You! No extra mods are planned other than more lift. I'm going with shorter shackles and doing a spring over in the rear then some DB's and longer coils in the front.

The Pull a Part here in Winston Salem had a white '87 still had the bed on it. Looked like it sat somewhere for years. No rust. The inside paint even looked good, just minor damage under the left rear tail light. I robbed the tailgate off it about a week and a half ago.

We finally got the roof on today. Unfortunatly the pass side A pilar was bent but my trail rig's winch fixed that. Here are some pics of the progress. This is Ron, my sheet metal/body fender man that is doing the work for us. This guy is good and fast! 7hrs start to finish on the roof!

My son and I made a trip to Mt Airy NC(3 hrs round trip) today to pick up some fenders/doors and a hood from a member of ComancheClub, simmonsm. I want to thank Mark for the great deal on some straight sheet metal! He has a badass "99" MJ as well that he is almost done with. Its a 87 MJ with 99 XJ interior/exterior and drivetrain, including the OBD2!

Here is our new to us sheet metal

This door will need 4 holes welded up from a aftermarket mirror but other than that, all of the sheet metal is straight and rust free!

WOOT! The interior is in(the "Custom Headliner" headliner fits like a glove), new carpet, its coming together great. We will hang the doors/fenders this week and drop the replacement bed on next weekend

It should be driveable in two weeks!

Pics to come later
